ATHOL - A graveside service for Elizabeth R. "Nana" (Elwell) Wright, 89, of 739 Daniel Shays Hwy., was held Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Silver Lake Cemetery with family members and friends sharing prayer and memories. 

A reception followed at the Orange American Legion. 

Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, directed arrangements.

ATHOL - Elizabeth R. (Elwell) "Nana" Wright, 89, of 739 Daniel Shays Hwy., died Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at the Baldwinville Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

Elizabeth was born April 21, 1924, in Athol, the daughter of Merle and Hattie (McLean) Elwell. She has lived in Athol all of her life and attended Athol schools.

Nana was a member of Starrett Memorial United Methodist Church, and enjoyed cooking and traveling, especially to Vermont watching the wild animals. She has always been one with a great sense of humor and had many words of wisdom. Most of all Nana loved being around her family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She leaves two sons, William Wright and his wife Barbara, and Robert Wright and his wife Carol and a daughter, Barbara Smith and her husband Clinton, all of Athol; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Elwell of Athol; and several nieces and nephews. 

She was predeceased by her husband of 32 years, Anton Wright, who died Dec. 10, 1972; her daughter Betty Jane Johnson; four brothers; a sister and a grandson, William.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m., at Silver Lake Cemetery (Silver Lake Street entrance). 

A reception will follow at the Orange American Legion on Daniel Shays Highway in Orange.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in Elizabeth's name may be made to the American Heart Association, Mass. Affiliate, 20 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701-4688 or the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, Mass. 01701-9376. 

Higgins-O'Connor Funeral Home, 146 Main St., Athol, is directing arrangements.
