| Inside Outside | It would be great to see a large turnout tomorrow from noon to 2 p.m. when Athol Memorial Hospital (AMH) hosts a "thank you to the folks of the North Quabbin area for over 60 years of support." Thursday, September 09, 2010
| | | Find Better Ways To Defang Extremists | Pakistan's floods are spreading devastation and human suffering across the very countryside where Islamist extremists are working overtime to portray the West, particularly the United States, as evil. Despite the slow arrival of $200 million in U.S. aid, an important opportunity to win hearts and minds could be slipping away as the extremists seize the initiative. Thursday, September 09, 2010
| | | Collector's Choice | The U.S. Postal Service issued a 44-cent stamp on Sept. 6 to honor humanitarian Mother Teresa. This stamp is being issued on the 100th anniversary of her birth year. A native of Albania, she was declared an honorary U.S. citizen in 1996. Thursday, September 09, 2010
| | | Dear Abby | DEAR ABBY: "Cautious Bachelorette" (July 16) asked you how she should respond to a workman who asks if she lives alone. Having worked 30 years in a maximum security prison, I can assure your readers that criminals gravitate toward jobs that provide access to people's homes as a way of scouting victims, so "Bachelorette's" concern is well-founded. | | | BEHIND ANDREWS | Editor, Daily News
I am a relative newcomer to this wonderful and scenic area. The idea was to retire here someday, but life being what it is those plans changed when I was laid off in March of 2009. Since we had purchased our "retirement" home in Orange in December 2008, we thought perhaps it was time to be here on a more permanent basis, and with a little luck find work. We arrived August 2009 and have really enjoyed this past year.

| | | 'He's Baaack!' | Parents nationwide are shipping freshmen off to college, and their minds are racing. Think of all the things that abruptly unoccupied bedroom could be used for now! A library, a study, an office, maybe a guest room. But don't reach just yet for that roll of lavender wallpaper to entomb the stuck-tight concert posters. There's a good chance your most frequent guest will be that kid of yours. Because multi-generational households -- demographic jargon for "He's baaack!" -- are becoming more common. | | | Dear Abby | DEAR ABBY: I am a 46-year-old man who has been divorced for six months. I recently moved down to South Florida for a new job. I am trying out the dating scene, but it has been difficult because I was married for 10 years. Wednesday, September 08, 2010

| | | The Good Life | As the biennial legislative session for the 186th General Court came to an end on July 31, 2010, one piece of legislation stood out to me as a smart, common sense policy that I thought might be of interest to you. House Bill 4916, "An Act to Create a Silver Alert Community Response System," is a combination of three bills, filed by Senator Robert O'Leary and Representatives Angelo Puppolo and Kathi-Anne Reinstein, relative to providing protection for seniors and memory impaired individuals. | | | Keeping Social Security Successful | In July, trustees announced that for the first time since 1983 Social Security will pay out more in benefits, by $41 billion, than it receives in payroll taxes. That announcement, along with the long-term insolvency in Social Security funding, should serve as a warning that the nation's public retirement system is in need of repair. | | | Dear Abby | DEAR ABBY: My best friend of 30 years, "Andrea," and her husband decided not to have children. They are happy with their dogs and cats. Tuesday, September 07, 2010
