ATHOL - Kevin Chauvette, 19, of town, took part in the annual "Run to Home Base" event this past Saturday at Fenway Park in Boston.
The event was developed by Red Sox Foundation Chairman Tom Werner to help raise funds to provide treatment for post 9/11 veterans who return home from war zone areas, such as Iraq and Afghanistan, and who may suffer from "invisible wounds of war" such as post traumatic stress disorder.
This year marked the fifth such event, which has raised over $11 million dollars to provide treatment in partnership with Massachusetts General Hospital.
Chauvette raised $850 for his run and finished 14th overall in a field of 2,600 runners in the 9K event. He was the top runner in the 19 and under category.
