NORTHFIELD -- The Athol High School boys varsity basketball team dropped an 84-60 decision to Pioneer on Friday.
The Raiders were without star Adrian Sexton due to illness, but started strong as they took a 16-14 lead after one. The Panthers outscored Athol 21-14 in the second quarter and took a 35-30 lead to the locker room at halftime.
The Panthers carried that momentum into the third quarter and led 55-41 after three before outscoring Athol 29-19 in the fourth.
Athol resident Lennon Robichaud netted 19 points to lead Pioneer past his former team.
Alex Page lead the Raiders with 17 points. Zack Dodge tacked on 10. Bradley Bousquet and Tyler Guerin added nine points apiece.
Jerry Parker chipped in seven points for Athol. Dakota Melanson netted six. Javier Morales and Erik Aikey tacked on one point each.
Pioneer won the junior varsity contest 54-40.
Nelson Leadbetter led Athol with 10 points. Tyler Lajoie added seven. Bryce Melanson and Kevin Hume tossed in five points apiece. Mark Brighenti netted four. Tanner Pavilionis chipped in three. Dylan Gray, Mark Batchelor and Ryley Saisa added two points each.
