ORANGE — A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 1, at 1 p.m., at the Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall, 185 Daniel Shays Hwy., for Gertrude B. (Davis) Prasinos, 88, of East River Street, King James Court, who died March 16, at Athol Hospital.
Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main St., Orange, is assisting the family.
ORANGE — Gertrude B. (Davis) Prasinos, 88, of King James Court, East River Street, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Athol Hospital after being stricken ill earlier at home. She was hoping to live longer than her mother who passed away at 98.
Born in Athol on April 16, 1928, she was a daughter of the late Ashley and Ruth Davis and grew up in the Tully section of Orange and attended the Tully one room schoolhouse. Gertrude was born the same year sliced bread was invented.
In 1955, Gertrude married George Prasinos in San Diego, Calif., and have enjoyed over 62 years together. They had met at a dance for servicemen in San Diego. While living in San Diego, Gertrude lived with her sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Leon. George was an avid photographer as well as the company photographer while serving with the Marines.
Gertrude and George lived in California and Utah and moved to Orange in the early 1980s.
Gertrude had worked for Continental Baking Company as a comptometer operator and previously was employed by the L.S. Starrett Company and the Coat Factory before she met her husband. She and George, who was director of housekeeping at Quabbin Valley Healthcare in Athol for many years, owned and operated a cleaning business as well.
Gertrude was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Daniel Shays Highway in Orange. She served for many years in the public ministry as a full time minister for Jehovah’s Witnesses.
An avid reader, Gertrude also had enjoyed knitting, fishing and camping. She also enjoyed sitting by the fireside and had quite a sense of humor.
Survivors include her beloved husband, George Prasinos of Orange; a son, George C. Prasinos and his wife, PeggyAnn, of Athol; grandson, Joel Prasinos and his wife, Samantha, of Lynn; great-grandchildren, Victor Prasinos and another on the way; a stepdaughter, Melinda Coppinger of Athol; stepgrandchildren, Caelan Coppinger, Jack Vincent and Natan Alexander; stepgreat-grandchildren, Max and Mya and several nieces.
Besides her parents, Gertrude was predeceased by a brother, Donald Davis, two sisters, Marion Miller and Barbara Smith, as well as a nephew.
There are no calling hours.
A memorial service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 185 Daniel Shays Hwy., Orange, at a later date.
