WINCHENDON — An Athol man was arrested Thursday morning for allegedly assaulting a female victim with a kitchen knife.
Jack Newbrough, 25, was arrested at approximately 1 a.m. Thursday and charged with assault and battery with serious bodily injury and assault to murder.
Officers were dispatched to 5 School St. early Thursday morning to find a female victim who police said was stabbed in the neck with a kitchen knife.
According to a statement written by Lt. Kevin Wolski and published on the Winchendon Police Facebook page, Officers Dylan Mei and James Maynard arrived on the scene and found the victim, who police said is related to Newbrough.
Wolski wrote that Newbrough was sitting inside a locked vehicle parked in the property’s driveway and began stabbing himself in the neck as officers approached him.
“Officers were able to break a window and gain access to the suspect who was eventually subdued with a Taser,” he wrote. “[Newbrough] had superficial self-inflicted injuries and was arrested at the scene.”
The victim, Wolski stated, was transported to the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center and is “expected to make a full recovery.”
Wolski could not be immediately reached for comment Thursday morning.
