ATHOL – On behalf of Athol American Legion Post 102 and other local organizations, Post Commander Brian Dodge presented a check for $2,500 to Rebecca Bialecki to support the town’s overnight warming center.
In December, the North Quabbin Recovery Center opened its doors so housing-challenged residents of Athol would have a warm place to stay overnight when temperatures drop to 20 degrees or below.
Bialecki, volunteer coordinator for the center, said the $2,500 donation will primarily be used for supplies, as well as a celebration to thank the volunteers who donate their time to the warming center.
“Now we can at least say ‘thank you,’” said Bialecki at the check presentation on Thursday, Feb. 12.
Bialecki said there has been some discussion about using some of the funds to help with a washer and dryer getting installed.
“That would be great,” she said. “We also want to stock up a bit so we have the things we need for next year.”
