Overview:
Nomination papers are available for anyone interested in running for open seats in the Royalston and Petersham town elections, with voting taking place on April 6. Royalston residents can contact Town Clerk Barbara Richardson for papers, while Petersham residents can obtain papers from the Town Clerk on Monday evenings or by appointment.
Nomination papers are available for anyone who may be interested in running for a number of open seats in the Royalston and Petersham town elections.
Royalston residents who would like to take out papers should contact Town Clerk Barbara Richardson at townclerk@royalston-ma.gov. Papers are available at Whitney Hall in the South Village between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each Wednesday. Signatures must be returned to the town clerk by Monday, March 16.
The election will be held Monday, April 6. Voting will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall.
Offices to be filled include:
- Selectboard, one three-year seat, and incumbent Linda Alger is not seeking reelection
- Assessor, one three-year seat, James Richardson, incumbent
- Cemetery Commission, one three-year-seat, Mikaela Florucci, incumbent
- Board of Health, one three-year-seat, Philip Leger, incumbent
- Library Trustee, one three-year seat, Theresa Quinn, incumbent
- Planning Board, one five-year seat, Amy Sanden, incumbent
- Athol Royalston Regional School Committee, one three-year seat, Kiley Hall, incumbent
- John N. Bartlett Trust Fund, four one-year seats, Curtis Deveneau, Gary Winitzer and Nancy Melbourne, incumbents, and one vacant seat.

Petershamโs Town Election will also take place on Monday, April 6, with voting from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Town Hall. Nomination papers are available at the Town Clerk, Monday evenings between 5:30 and 7 p.m. or by appointment. Papers must be returned by Thursday, March 19.
The following positions are on the ballot:
- Moderator, Bart Wendell, incumbent
- Selectboard, incumbent Susan Dougherty is not seeking reelection
- Treasurer, Dana Robinson, incumbent
- Board of Assessors, Ellen Anderson, incumbent
- Board of Health, Stephen Loring, incumbent
- Mahar Regional School Committee, Stephen Hammond, incumbent (appointed)
- Petersham School Committee, Lynne Feldman, incumbent
- Planning Board, two openings, Fraser Sinclair and John Lawson, incumbents
- Trustees of Public Library, Kent Byron, incumbent.
According to bylaws of the Trustees of the Public Library, a person can only hold three terms. Byron is completing his third term, meaning there will be a vacancy to be filled. As Hammond was appointed to the Mahar Regional School Committee, he must take out papers to run for the two years remaining on the term.
At this time, the blanket nomination has been signed by Dana Robinson for Treasurer and by Lynne Feldman for Petersham School Committee. Incumbents have until March 19 to sign the blanket nomination expressing their intention to run for reelection. The last day to register to vote in either community is Friday, March 27.
