Phillip R. Leger

ATHOL, MA – Phillip R. Leger, 84, of Daniel Hays Highway, died on Wednesday March 18, 2026 at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

He was born in Fitchburg on June 23, 1941, he was the son of Joseph and Hilma (Saako) Leger.

On August 27, 1959, Phillip enlisted in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged on August 6, 1963.

On June 21, 1997, Phillip married Maria E. “Nikki” (O’Connell) and enjoyed 22 years of marriage until her death on October 25, 2019.

Phillip was a warehouse worker for many years.

He was a member of the Orange American Legion Post 172.

Phillip is survived by his sons, Matthew Leger and his wife Grace of Fitchburg and Jeffrey Leger and his wife Kim of Washington; grandchildren, Travis Leger, Valerie Osborn, Tyler Leger, Lauren Hansen and Jacob Leger; great grandchildren, Arlo Osborn, Callie Osborn, Daisy Osborn and Kennedy Jo Hansen; as well as several nephews and nieces.

Besides his parents, Phillip was predeceased by a brother, Francis “Pudgy” Leger.

Calling hours will be held on March 29, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

A funeral service will be held on March 30, 2026 at 11:30 a.m., at Witty’s Funeral Home, 158 South Main Street, Orange.

Interment will be at 1 p.m. on March 30, 2026, at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street, Winchendon.

In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Orange American Legion Post 172, P.O. Box 172, Orange, MA 01364.
