ATHOL – After nine years serving on Athol’s Selectboard, four of them as chair, Rebecca Bialecki was honored on Tuesday evening, March 17, at her final meeting as a member of the board.
Bialecki, who chose not to seek reelection this year, was presented a certificate of appreciation by Vice Chair Brian Dodge, who thanked her for her service and leadership.
Town Manager Shaun Suhoski lauded Bialecki for leadership ability.
“She’s been a great help to me,” he said. “You always know where you stand with Rebecca. That’s one of the things I respect in a person. She was more than willing to correct me when I was wrong, but it comes from a heart of gold.
“You care about the community,” he told Bialecki, “and the community you serve. I respect you very deeply.”
Board member Mitch Grosky said Bialecki “brought skill and compassion to every decision she makes. What truly set Rebecca apart is that she cares for others and has always stood up for those facing difficult situations; the poor, the disenfranchised, and anyone in need of a voice.”
