ORANGE — Wheeler Memorial Library at 49 East River St. invites the community to a series of events this month.

“The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie” will be screened on Thursday, July 9, from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m.

Local magician Ed the Wizard will perform his comedy and suspense from 3:30 to 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14. Guests will learn how he was inspired by Dumbledore (of “Harry Potter”) and taught himself to be a magician.

The BaNannies, a mother-daughter duo bringing children’s songs to life, will perform at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 23. There will be live music and dancing. The program is best suited for children ages 7 and younger, but all are welcome.

Jerry Schneider the Butterfly Guy will be at the library from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 28. Guests will learn about butterflies through pictures and stories. They can also create their own butterfly T-shirt if they bring a plain, light-colored shirt that is 100% cotton, or they can buy one for $5.

No registration is required for any of these programs.

Selectboard seeks quotes for mini-split installation

ORANGE — The Selectboard recently voted to request cost estimates for the installation of mini-splits outside Town Hall.

Member David Ames said three mini-splits, providing heating and cooling, followed certain municipal departments to their temporary home on Cheney Street after the Orange Armory closed. However, those same departments are now in Town Hall at 6 Prospect St.

Ames said the units’ exact future location is still in question, though at least one would likely be put between Town Hall and the neighboring First Universalist Church of Orange.

“Then, that way, it’s not facing any of the streets or anything,” he said at the July 1 meeting, adding that the only cost would be for the electrical work.

Chair Julie Davis said that because the town has no cooling station, she would like to see Town Hall have the mini-splits “so that we have a space for people to come and get cool.”

New picnic table coming to Town Hall

ORANGE — There is a plan to install a black picnic table outside Town Hall, near where a white one used to be.

“Everybody found that agreeable, so … we’ll work on getting that installed,” Town Administrator Matthew Fortier said at the Selectboard’s meeting on July 1.

Selectboard member Reid Jeffries “Jeff” Anderson Jr. said he thinks the black table will better match the existing handrails.
