‘Quabbin Quilts of Old’ to be on display
NEW SALEM — The Swift River Valley Historical Society’s quilt collection will be on display in the sanctuary of the Prescott Church on the society’s 40 Elm St. property on two Sundays this month.
“Quabbin Quilts of Old” will be available for viewing from 1 to 4 p.m. on Aug. 9 and Aug. 16. Admission is free.
The Swift River Valley Historical Society is a museum complex that preserves the history, artifacts and memories of Dana, Enfield, Greenwich and Prescott — the four Massachusetts towns disincorporated and flooded for the Quabbin Reservoir’s creation.
Aug. 29: ‘When Good Feet Meet Bad Shoes’
NEW SALEM — “When Good Feet Meet Bad Shoes” will be presented at the New Salem Public Library on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Nan Mead, a certified footcare nurse, will share information about foot anatomy and foot care, as well as tips for choosing healthy footwear.
Orange Community Band doles out scholarships
ORANGE — The Orange Community Band recently completed its 2026 summer season with a concert themed “Characters.” Just before intermission, Band Treasurer Susan TandySonger awarded two scholarships in memory of her late husband John Tandy, the longtime band president.
Michael Ploof, who sits next to his grandfather, Tim Ploof, in the community band’s trumpet section, and flutist Charlie Gagne received the scholarships. Both are repeat recipients of the scholarship and members of the University of Massachusetts Amherst Marching Band. The scholarships have been a tradition since 2002.
