SPRINGFIELD — The Athol boys varsity volleyball team fell to the Central High School Golden Eagles, 3-0, Thursday night.
The Golden Eagles won 25-15, 25-15, 27-25.
Hayden Herk led the team with six kills, while Zach Aldrich had four kills. Jordan Carrasquillo and Anthony Potenti each with three.
Colby Soltysik added 19 assists along with two aces. Potenti added two aces as well.
The Red Raiders are now 2-1 and will host Belchertown on Monday.
On Wednesday, Athol was ranked ninth in western Massachusetts in the latest edition of MassLive.com’s top 10 rankings.
The Red Raiders began the year 2-0 with road wins against Ware and East Longmeadow.
The Red Raiders defeated Ware 3-0. Senior Justin Blake provided 11 kills while the team combined for 11 aces. Athol took down East Longmeadow 3-1 on April 3. Soltysik provided 34 assists and the only two aces for the Red Raiders. Blake had 15 kills, while Carrasquillo had nine kills.
Westfield, Agawam and Minnechaug were ranked one, two and three, respectively. The Red Raiders face Agawam on April 17 and travel to Westfield on April 19.
Central is ranked eighth.
