HATFIELD — The Mahar Regional baseball team had 13 hits — all singles — in a 9-5 victory over Smith Academy, Wednesday.

Charlie Barnes went 3-for-4 with one run. Jacob Berry, Sam Paul and Todd Chiasson all had two hits each, while Paul, Chiasson and Andrew Herk added two RBIs each.

All but one Mahar starter had at least one hit, while all but two scored at least one run.

The Senators (4-8) took a 5-0 lead in the first inning. The Falcons (7-5) scored two runs in the third inning, but the Senators put the game out of reach by scoring four runs in the fifth inning. Smith Academy scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and one in the seventh inning.

Berry pitched five innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on five hits and four walks, while striking out two to earn the win. Will Peredina pitched the final two innings for the Senators, giving up one unearned run and one hit.
