The Mahar girls basketball team lost to Lee High School, 45-43, at the Coaches vs. Cancer event at Hoosac Valley High School, Saturday afternoon in Cheshire.

The Senators (8-5) had a 38-31 lead heading into the fourth quarter but it slipped away in the final frame.

Lee outscored Mahar 14-5 in the fourth.

“Fatigue played a factor,” Mahar coach Larry Fisher said. “Playing in two game in 17 hours.”

With the game tied with 7 seconds left, Lee’s Emma Puleri took a pass and advanced past half court without hesitation. Puleri continued into Mahar’s paint and made a floater with less than two seconds left, giving the Wildcats the win.

Tori Tenney returned from an illness and scored 10 points with two 3-pointers.

Micalyn Mailloux scored 13 points with Jazmyn Vautour adding nine.

Puleri had 19 points with three 3-pointers for the Volunteers.

Wrestling

Wayland 45, Mahar 27; Wakefield 56, Mahar 13; Mahar 48, Quabbin 18; Leominster 40, Mahar 39 — Wrestling at a meet at Quabbin Regional on Saturday, the Senators picked up a win against the host school, while losing three meets.

Against Quabbin, the Senators notched several quick pins: Jonathan Mahony (39 seconds), Justin diDiego (38 seconds), Adam Clement (59 seconds) and Henry Ndayisaba (1:00).

Ndayisaba had an impressive showing at the meet with four victories. Ndayisaba won two decisions: Leominster’s Anthony Larson (7-1) and Wakefield’s Jimmy Grover (7-2). He also pinned Wayland’s Zach Anzivino (2:50).

Clement (145), Mahony (120) and Peter Tattan (170) had multiple victories for Mahar.
