The Mahar middle school boys team beat Greenfield 41-22 on the road on Valentine’s Day to close out its season with its 11th straight win.
The Senators finished 16-1 with a loss coming to Frontier early on in the season.
Mahar led the Green Wave 26-12 at halftime.
Gavin Sullivan scored 12 points for the Senators with Connor Sluder adding 11.
Cam Gadarowski (6), Lucas Isrow (5), Will Barnes (4), David Johnson (2), and David Vitello (1) all found the net for Mahar in the season finale.
Sullivan averaged 14.7 points this season for the Senators.
The 6-foot, 2-inch Sluder scored 10.9 with most of his damage coming in the paint and on the offensive glass. Leading the defense was Barnes, who used his quickness to his advantage but would bang in the paint if needed.
Kaleb Lemcke became a starter for the Senators this season as a result of his motor.
Isrow, Barnes, Owen Carl and Obi Eaton are all players to watch next season for Mahar.
Athol Middle School boys – The Red Raiders finished 13-6 this season mostly due to the big three of Conall Tontodonato, Angel Castillo and Aedan Erickson.
It is the fourth straight season the Athol has won 10 more more wins.
Tontodonato averaged 8.7 points during the season and his versatility on defense was important to the Red Raiders.
Erickson averaged 10.7 points with the ability to score from outside and attacking the paint.
“His (Erickson) appetite to win games is unmatched,” Athol coach Nathan Fisher said.
Castillo was a steady presence for the Red Raiders at point guard and can stretch the floor. Ben Kearney and Tony Carbone are players to watch next season for Athol.
Carbone is a longer player and can get to the rim, while Kearney’s developed outside jumper is starting to look confident for the Red Raiders.
Mahar Middle School girls – The Senators swarmed this season giving up only 14.8 points a game on defense in a 13-2 campaign.
Kendrah Doane will move on to junior varsity next season, but went out in style in Mahar’s last game against Greenfield with 18 points.
Doane led the defense averaging 3.9 steals a game and had a triple double against Hopkins Academy. In 34-18 win over the Golden Hawks Doane scored 11 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Alivia Patch led Mahar in scoring and rebounding as a seventh grader.
Cassidy Boutell was third in scoring and played aggressive defense for the Senators.
Paige Gadarowski and Deanna Smith will return next year and will continue their roles as outside shooters for Mahar. Sophia Woods was the recipient of the Coach’s Award for overall leadership and dedication for Mahar.
Athol Middle School girls – Every single player returns next season for the Red Raiders after a 9-9 season.
Jenna Bonenfant nearly averaged a double-double for the season and was the top-scorer for Athol. Bonenfant also averaged three steals and three blocks a game on defense.
Her totals for the season were 8.67 points and 10.0 rebounds a game.
Samantha Mailloux and Elizabeth Mailloux were both aggressive defensively for Athol.
Samantha Mailloux led the team in steals.
Sixth grader Kylah Blundon used her speed to her advantage on the defensive end as well for the Red Raiders. Ariana Whaley-Britt averaged three rebounds per game as a sixth grader.
