ORANGE — Interested acoustic musicians and singers are invited to gather downtown in Memorial Park to join in the Third Thursday Summer Street Fair’s first-ever “all-star” jam session, this Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. – weather permitting. Invited “stars” include musical alumni of the previous fairs and any other family-friendly musicians who may like to join.
The (mostly) “unplugged” jam calls for musical troupers to gather in fun and camaraderie to extemporaneously back each other up in songs led in round-robin fashion. Harmony singers as well as lead singers and instrumentalists are encouraged to participate.
Local musician Ann Reed has proposed the brainchild following notification that Thursday’s originally scheduled band had to cancel.
The annual summertime fair series is facilitated by the Orange Merchants Group, and features food trucks, sidewalk sales and other street attractions so that townsfolk may enjoy socializing, supping and shopping in a celebratory community setting. Since its launch of a few years ago, the event series has also given rise to a musical busking scene downtown — more common to city life.
Rain would necessitate cancellation of Thursday’s plans, said Brenda Anderson of the Orange Merchants Group.
