It’s been quite a while since Jim Woodward’s last win against Mount Greylock.

The current Mahar coach beat the Mounties in 1968 as a player for Tantasqua High School.

The last time he went against them as a coach was in 2011 when the Mounties ousted the Senators from the playoffs.

Mahar (0-6) will travel to the Berkshires Friday for another shot at its first win of the 2018 season. The Mounties have wins over Monument Mountain, Belchertown and Drury.

As a coach, Woodward has not faced Mount Greylock often, but still doesn’t have a victory over the Mounties.

“They are usually pretty good,” Woodward said. “We just happened to match up with them in a crossover again.”

Noaha Chabot will remain at quarterback for the Senators, but there will be a lot of wildcat looks with running back John Gariepy taking the snaps for Mahar.

The Senators will play at Farley-Lamb Field on the campus of Williams College as a result of poor field conditions at Mount Greylock Regional School.

The Mounties (3-3) play a lot of the pistol offense as well as several different conventional shotgun formations. They also feature a sizable offensive line.

“They are formidable,” Woodward. “Hopefully we make a few more plays than they do.”

Michael Wellspeak has a good accurate arm for the Mounties. Taylor Cummings gets the most carries out of Greylock’s backfield.

Cummings had a 135 yard game on 21 carries against Monument Mountain.
