ATHOL — During the pandemic gathering signatures for a political campaign is a serious challenge, so Will LaRose is thrilled to report that he is formally on the ballot for state representative of the 2nd Franklin District.

Last week the Massachusetts High Court, drastically reduced the number of signatures needed to be on the ballot to 75 from the original 150 needed.

LaRose, a Democrat from Athol, is challenging Susannah Whipps, an Independent who is running for a fourth term.

“I am incredibly proud of my campaign team and all those who have stepped forward to help support us,” LaRose said in a press release. “We were able to easily pass the 150 signatures that are normally needed. It has been my pleasure getting to know many people from our great towns and learning about the individual challenges that our communities face. We look forward to the months ahead and the opportunity to share our vision with the district.”

The 2nd Franklin District, is comprised of 12 mostly-rural communities stretching from Belchertown to Phillipston, and also includes Athol, Erving, Gill, New Salem, Orange, Petersham, Royalston, Templeton, Warwick, and Wendell.
