SOUTH DEERFIELD — The Frontier Regional softball team had its way with the Mahar Senators on Thursday, winning 17-1.
“We’re just going to move forward from that one,” Mahar coach Jerry Duguay said. “Put that one in our back pocket.”
Mahar’s Skylar Dodge hit a solo home run in the first inning to put the Senators (5-6) up 1-0. The Red Hawks (7-6) scored three in the bottom half of the inning on four walks, one hit batsman and one single.
The Red Hawks added two more in the second and eight runs in the third to go up 13-1. The Senators committed three of their five errors in the third inning.
Frontier scored four more runs in the fourth on three hits and one Mahar error.
Dodge went 2-for-3 with the home run and one walk. Hannah Dupont, Megan Rich and Sarah Graeff each added one hit.
“We’re going to look forward not back,” Duguay said. “We’re going to look forward to the second half of our season and try to make a run of it.”
The Mahar junior varsity softball team lost 6-2 to Frontier Regional on Thursday. Makayla Mathurin made her first career start for the Senators and struck out four over seven innings.
Mackinley Drew had two hits and two runs. Jazmine Vezina, Gracie Fournier and Mathurin each had one hit. Drew also made six putouts and an unassisted double play at shortstop.
