WENDELL — After a successful first year, the Wendell Reggae Fest returns today.
Featuring genre veteran Denroy Morgan, I Anbassa, Total Collision, ReBelle, Equalities and locals Simon White & Rhythm Incorporated — and with DJs Live and I-ganic spinning discs — the family festival will be from 2 p.m. until midnight, rain or shine, at the Deja Brew Café & Pub at 57 Lockes Village Road.
In addition to jammin’ tunes, there will be Caribbean food, pizza, a full bar, bonfire and vendors.
Tickets cost is $10 at the event. Children under 12 will be allowed in for free, and 10 percent of all proceeds will go to the Friends of Wendell, a volunteer community fund.
According to Wendell native Simon White, his band Simon White & Rhythm Incorporated is hosting the event. Deja Brew approached him with the idea of the festival last year, and Wendell turned out to be an ideal spot for a reggae festival.
Despite the woodsy town of around 800 people as a venue, last year the festival drew around 300 people, White said.
Simon White & Rhythym Incorporated put out its first studio release in March, “Beautiful Day,” and will also back Denroy Morgan — known for 1980s club songs like “I’ll Do Anything for You” — during his set.
