Readers’ Choice — Whelpley business

This festive holiday display at the former Dennis’ Citgo gas station owned by Dennis Whelpley of town has caught the eye of several Athol Daily News’ readers who called in to say the colorful lights bring joy whenever they drive past the business at 1728 Main Street in Athol. Some likened it to a “colorful gingerbread house” and others commented that it “just makes me smile.” Whelpley said this is the second year the lights have gone up, and while it was his idea, he credited his twin grandsons  Ryan and Nicholas of town for the tough job of hanging them. “My house on Woodlawn Road Road looks the same, they decorated all the way from the house down the driveway. It looks nice. National Grid thanked me,” he joked. The gas pumps at the station were removed in 2016 and Whelpley continues to provide state motor vehicle inspections year-round. Readers are invited to submit photos of their favorite light displays in the area, to be uploaded to our website and shared with others. Please specify the road and town and send submissions to newsroom@atholdailynews.com.
