On Thursday, our publisher Aaron Julien announced the exciting changes coming up — and quickly — for the Athol Daily News.
■ We’re moving back to six-days-a-week print publication, Monday through Saturday, beginning Monday, Feb. 11.
■ We’re increasing our spending on news coverage and have added local reporter Kathryn “Kathy” Chaisson full time to our news team.
■We’re bringing more youth sports stories and photos to our pages.
■ We’re publishing a new weekly tabloid supplement, The Source, on Fridays, loaded with Athol coverage. The first will be inserted in the Friday, Feb. 15 edition.
To do all this, we are restructuring expenses in the advertising service and leveraging the production resources of sister newspapers.
If you haven’t already heard, in addition to getting two more papers a week, you’ll be getting bigger papers — about eight pages a day bigger. The Athol Daily News will now provide national and state news, additional youth sports, a bigger puzzles and comics section, regional food, gardening, religion, outdoors, arts and entertainment coverage, and an expanded weather feature.
And you’ll still be getting police logs, local columns, school lunch menus, television grids, obituaries, community news and events, and all the Athol, Orange and area news you depend on — and more of it. We welcome your News Tips and Letters to the Editor! Simply click on one of the handy links at the bottom of our homepage at atholdailynews.com to reach us. Or you can drop items off at the Daily News like you always have.
We sincerely hope you like the changes we’re making. If you have any suggestions or feedback, please send an email to publisher@atholdailynews.com or drop a letter at our Athol Daily News business office, 225 Exchange Street.
To all our readers and advertisers — we thank you, and appreciate your continued support.
