Elana Witherell blasted a pair of grand slams and also struck out seven in three innings in the circle as the Northfield Cougars defeated Hinsdale, 10-5, in a Tri-County League softball game Thursday night at Northfield Elementary School.

Kristine Given struck out seven in three innings in the win and also singled and drove in a run. Ashlynn Andrews added two hits in the win.

Dejanna Sanchez doubled and singled for Hinsdale, and Riley Rockwood and Haylee Cowen each had two hits. Sierra Pouin chipped in a single, and Kiley Hemlow struck out 13.

GGSL

Cordelia Guerin was 3-for-3 with a double and drove in the game-tying run in the fifth inning to help Pipione’s Sport Shop to a 5-5 tie with Conte Office Interiors in a Greenfield Girls Softball League game Thursday night at Murphy Park in Greenfield.

Guerin’s game-tying hit came after Margerette Howland was intentionally walked and represented the game-tying run. Howland slugged a two-run home run earlier in the game. She also pitched four innings of no-hit ball in relief, striking out 12. Anna Bucala started and struck out one and also tripled, while Shelby O’Leary doubled, and Kylee Gamache singled and drove in a run.

Conte led 5-0 early on. Ivy Rae tripled and also pitched three innings with eight strikeouts. Stella Verlander also pitched two innings and struck out five.

• Meanwhile, Taylor Menard had three doubles, a triple and four RBIs to lead Camelot Carpet Cleaners past Gilmore & Farrell, 19-6.

MacKenzie Paulin tripled, doubled and drove in four runs on four hits in the win. She also faced 15 hitters and struck out 14, giving up just one walk and no hits. Rachel Wood pitched well in relief.

Kelly Baird went 4-for-4 with three doubles and two RBIs in the win, and Mackensie Goncalves went 4-for-4 with an RBI. Kaia Livingstone had two hits and three RBIs, and Amelia Pierce had two hits and two RBIs.

Ellis Benitez struck out 13 for Gilmore & Farrell.

• In Lil Nipper action, Charley Knight and Kayla Fish each had two hits as Precision Driving School beat Lundgren Honda, 2-0.

Ainsley Martin played well defensively in the win. Olivia Bassett and Madison Ross each had two hits for Lundgren.

• Also, Amelia Bouchard went 4-for-4 as Franklin First Credit Union beat Harper’s Store, 12-3.

Sofia Ruggeri went 3-for-3, and Rian Farrell had a pair of hits. Bianca Reynolds added three hits and turned a double play.

Ella Rotkiewicz and Riley Dyer each went 3-for-3 for Harper’s, and Mikayla Cormie played well defensively.

West County League

Katy Lengeiza struck out 10, while Makayla Tatro hit a grand slam and drove in five runs as the Hawlemont Pumas beat the Buckland-Shelburne Huskies, 13-7, in a West County Softball League game Thursday at Arms Academy in Shelburne.

Maggie Banek had three hits and turned an unassisted double play in the win.

Linnae Macek struck out nine in the loss, while Isabella Pettengill had two hits and three RBIs.

Youth baseball

Newt Guilbault

Jake Jurek went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and also struck out eight in three hitless innings on the mounds as Greenfield Savings Bank beat Turners Falls Athletic Club, 6-2, in a Newt Guilbault Community League baseball game Thursday at Gamelin Field in Turners Falls.

Mason Lehtomaki went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Nathaniel Trinque drove in a run.

Matt Field struck out 11 in the loss and added a single at the plate. Sammy Studlien had two hits.

• Elsewhere, Julian Kaiser struck out 10 as St. Kazimierz Society played Booska’s Flooring to a 12-12 tie.

Zavyey Nieves tripled and stole four bases for St. Kaz, and Jeremy Kovalsick hit a two-run double in the sixth to tie the game. Jack Day played well defensively at second base, while catcher Kainen Stevens tagged out a runner trying to score to end the fifth.

Max Burnett struck out seven in four innings for Booska’s. Burnett had a single and scored a run. Zadian Alamed tripled and scored a run, Cam Laster had two singles, a triple and scored three times, and Jaiden Lapointe doubled and singled.

Orange Little League

Dick’s Auto 17, Athol Legion 11 — Luke Connors and Sam Connors split time on the mound in the win for Dick’s Auto at James Salevan Field in Athol on Thursday. 

Madix Whitman came in for some late inning relief work for Dick’s Auto.

Hunter Brooks made a nice catch in centerfield while Aiden Britt flashed some leather at third base with another impressive catch for Dick’s Auto. 

Luan Lopez led the offense with a couple base knocks for Dick’s Auto.

Braeden Tsipenyuk and Gabe Tomasi each homered twice to lead New Fortune past Maniatty’s Real Estate, 14-12, in a Greenfield Minor League Baseball game Thursday night at Lunt Field in Greenfield.

Tsipenyuk added a double and drove in six runs int he win, while Tomasi added a single and drove in five runs. Heath Gomez singled and doubled, and Jayden Hunter added a double.

Ethan Mauthe hit a grand slam for Maniatty’s. William Ainsworth had three hits and three RBIs, and Luca Siano added two hits.

• In Rookie League action, Cooper Hobbs had four doubles to help Greenfield Elks to a 16-4 win over Tom Call.

Jayden Howard hit a two-run double in the loss.

Mohawk Youth

Noah Mortimer struck out seven to lead Colrain past Hawlemont, 18-16, in a Mohawk Youth League Minor Division baseball game on Thursday.

Connor Roberts, Cole Bassett and Mason Bassett each went 3-for-3 in the win.

Joe Mason hit a home run and a double and also pitched one shutout inning for Hawlemont. Dylon Schorr and Landon Smead played well defensively.

• In other action, Xavier Fripp scored four times and pitched well as the Buckland Shelburne Braves topped Rowe, 21-7.

Levi Dunn went 3-for-4 in the win, and Harrison Manning scored three times.

Brayden Brisson played well in the infield for Rowe. Joshua Lively pitched well, and Camden Cousineau had a hit.

• In Major Division action, Luke Howard went 2-for-3 with two RBIs as Polish American Citizens Club defeated Buckland Shelburne Brewers, 4-0.

Drew Bennett went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI in the win.

Jazzy Hayes and Arlo Dube each had a hit in the loss.

Frontier Ripken

Cameron Graves had two doubles and three RBIs but Wilcox Builders fell to Pekarski’s Sausage, 12-6, in a Frontier Cal Ripken Youth League baseball game on Thursday.

Connor Kowaloski struck out three on the mound in the loss.

Adult softball

Montague Co-Rec

Luis Melendez had two hits including a home run to lead Between the Uprights to a 5-2 win over St. Stanislaus Society in a Montague Co-Rec Adult Softball League game Thursday at Unity Park.

Adam Bastarache hit a two-run home run in the win, and Sara Taylor had two hits.

Stephen Smith led St. Stan’s with two hits.

Colleges

Phillips honored

Gill’s Mackenzie Phillips was recognized as a New England Women and Men’s Athletic Conference All-Conference Player of the Year as well as a New England Player of the Year.

The Worcester Polytechnic Institute junior pitcher went 16-4 on the season and helped her team to the NEWMAC championship. Phillips and the Engineers went 1-2 in the NCAA Division 3 tournament before being ousted. Phillips pitched in all three games and earned the team’s win over St. Joseph’s, but also suffered the loss in the season-finale.

Phillips went 16-4 this season with 108 strikeouts and a 2.57 earned run average. She led the NEWMAC in wins with nine and ranked third in strikeouts despite splitting time.

Golf

CFC Men’s

Jason Germain’s plus-four quota won the Blue Tee Division during the Men’s League at Crumpin-Fox Club Thursday in Bernardston.

Jason Wallace was a plus-two and won a tiebreaker for second place over Cam Merrigan.

Dave Puchalski was a plus-three to win the Gold Tee Division, while Chester Kugler was a minus-4 to take second.

Elks League

Greg Call and Bob Zaikowski sit in first place with 24½ points in the Greenfield Elks League at the Country Club of Greenfield.

Mike Duclos and Sharon Rawson sit tied with John Cariddi and Stan Maynard in second place with 22½ points.
