ERVING — Police are investigating the death of a 40-year-old man from Erving who is believed to have fallen from a tree while hunting Monday evening.  

At approximately 6:45 p.m. Monday, police responded to the area of the French King Highway in Erving. Upon arrival, they found a man lying near the base of a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Northwestern District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Melissa Sippel.  

Sippel added that while no foul play is suspected at this time, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will ultimately determine the cause of death.

The death remains under investigation by the Erving Police Department and Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to the DA’s office.
