For over 30 years, the Athol Woman’s Club [AWC] has lit the Memory Tree at the uptown common. The tree is dedicated to Betty Jean Sweet, who first brought the dedication of the lighted holiday tree to Athol.
During this season, there are reminders of family and friends that are deceased, and yet their light shines in the community. Donations to this fund will continue to support the AWC’s non-profit efforts. The names of family and friends that are remembered will be published in the Athol Daily News and the Athol Community Facebook page several times during the holiday season. The tree was donated by Ethan Stone of West Brook Tree Farm, Route 2A, Athol.
Names of people or organizations that you wish to be remembered and a monetary donation for the Memory Tree can be sent to Athol P.O. Box 194, Athol Woman’s Club, or delivered to Elsewhere at 1485 Main St., Athol or MacMannis Florist at 2108 Main St., Athol. These local businesses have welcomed the Memory Tree project. For more information about supporting this effort, contact Joyce Phinney at 978-249-3281.
The Athol Woman’s Club provides support to local non-profits throughout the year, including the Athol Bird & Nature Club, Athol Orange Community Television, Green Clean Athol, LifePath – Franklin County, Ronald McDonald House, Relay for Life, Athol Police, Athol Area YMCA and United Way. Scholarship support is given to selected young women from Athol High School.
The Athol Daily News will continue to publish the names submitted.
