The Mohawk Trail Regional School District matters to me. I am in my eighth year of working in the district, and for all those years, my two children have been enrolled within the district. They have attended Colrain Central School, Sanderson Academy, and Mohawk Trail Regional School. We love all these small schools and our kids are getting a great education.

This is why I’ve helped to arrange childcare at all our town meetings this year. I am writing to urge the families of Plainfield and Charlemont to use our free childcare and to show up to support the school budget on May 26 and May 30. We already lost 20 positions in the district this year and without your support, we will likely lose more positions and programming.

I’m also concerned that the School Committee recently voted to severely limit school choice next year for Colrain and BSE, without public input. This move limits revenue and the diversity and friendships that school choice students bring. Citizens spoke up and this item is back on the School Committee agenda for June 10. To find out more, please join me by attending a community conversation at the Griswold Memorial Library on May 29 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. School Committee members and town representatives have been invited. Come and find out how you can support our schools. I also hope to see you at the School Committee meeting on June 10 at 6 p.m. at the Mohawk Trail Regional School. If you’ve never attended a School Committee meeting before, this is one that’s worth your time. Show up and stand up for our schools.
