Two events to sponsor new church bell

PETERSHAM – The Petersham Congregational Church is hosting two events this summer. The first is on June 20 at the Petersham Town Hall, 1 South Main St. Coordinated by funny4funds.com, an evening of laughter is planned for the Help Ring Our Bell Comedy Event. The event will raise funds so that the church can have repairs made to its bell.

The plan is to make repairs to keep the bell suspended safely and remain a part of the church, but add an automated ringer that will allow remote access to ring the bell without members of the congregation climbing the bell tower. The cost is estimated at $35,000 and work will be done by a company that specializes in historic bell restoration and bell ringing automated systems.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and the event starts at 7 p.m. with various comedians. The event is open to those ages 18 and over, and will showcase clean comedy and audience participation.

In addition to the show, there will be a snack bar, general raffle and a 50/50 raffle, with all proceeds going towards the bell project. The church is looking for sponsorships and donations to offset the event costs as well as raffle items for the table. Tickets are $ 20 per person and available for pre-purchase at https://tinyurl.com/4t4pvsbr. Donations and sponsorships can alas be made through the event link. For donated items for the raffle table, please contact Lynn Scott at lynnascott2@gmail.com.

The church’s annual Summer Fair will be held on July 11 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on the front lawn and inside the church. There are books, attic goodies, vintage items, furniture, clothing, household items, toys and much more. The church will also sponsor a snack bar, bake sale and strawberry shortcake.

This is always a well attended event and it will be held rain or shine. Larger items will be on the front lawn and the remainder will be in the church and dining hall. Cash and checks will be accepted.

Mount Wachusett to host Community Health and Wellness Fair

GARDNER – Mount Wachusett Community College student Wren Stoddard will host a Community Health and Wellness Fair on Friday, June 5, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the South Café of the Gardner campus as part of their work as a 2025–2026 Newman Civic Fellow.

The event is designed to connect community members with healthcare resources, wellness organizations, and nursing students in an interactive and supportive environment focused on improving community health and expanding access to care.

“As a nursing student, health and wellness are always at the front of my mind,” said Stoddard. “I wanted my Newman Project to reflect my studies and future goals, so hosting a Health and Wellness Fair was the obvious choice.”

A key feature of the fair will be a student-led vitals screening station organized in partnership with the Student Nurses Association. Nursing student volunteers will create a mock clinical “office” environment where community members can receive basic health screenings, including temperature, heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and heart and lung sound checks.

The initiative will allow nursing students to strengthen essential clinical and interpersonal skills while building meaningful connections with members of the community they may one day serve professionally.

The fair will also feature a Walgreens pharmacy vaccine clinic offering walk-in vaccinations for COVID-19, shingles, pneumonia and other immunizations. In addition, community organizations, fitness programs, clinics, and specialty medical facilities will provide educational resources, demonstrations and information about local wellness services and programs.
