Athol, MA – With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Josephine “Ann” Hyde-Hebert, born on August 29, 1934, in Athol, Massachusetts, who departed this life on June 19, 2026. A lifelong resident of Petersham, Massachusetts, Ann was a beacon of compassion and humility in her community. Her adventurous spirit was reflected in her love for the outdoors, gardening, hiking, and kayaking.
Ann was a devoted member of St. Peter’s Church in Petersham, where her reliable service brought comfort and joy to many. She also volunteered her time to the Petersham American Legion Auxiliary, adding to her long list of contributions to the community. In her professional life, Ann worked at the L.S. Starrett Company and the Brandon School in Petersham, both of which she served with dedication and love. Her accomplishments were many, but she carried them with grace and humility, always focusing on the needs of others before her own.
Above all, Ann cherished her family, she was a loving mother to her children, Martha Arsenault; John Hyde; Cheryl Austin (Ronnie) Margaret Hume (Keith) she also leaves her sister, Peggy Thayer; her grandchildren, Jason Hume, Chris Hume (Nikki) , Eric Hume; three great grandchildren, Marcus Hume, Kaisley Hume, Landon Hume and many nieces and nephews.
Ann will be greatly missed by her lifetime friends, Nancy Carruth, Wanda Dickson, Helene Mello and her friends at St. Peters Church and the Congregational Church.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward H. “Bud” Hyde, by her parents, George and Mary (Powers) Yonker, by her sister, Kathleen Duguay, and her brother-in-law, Nelson “Nussie” Duguay; by her sister, Emma Allouise, and by her brother-in-law, Pat Allouise, by a brother George Yonker, Jr. and by her niece, Shelley Ploof.
