Identity of victim in Athol fatal accident released

ATHOL — The victim of Saturday’s fatal vehicle accident has been identified as Kyle Bezio, 29, of Athol.

Bezio died at Athol Hospital, where he was taken after being hit by a vehicle traveling in the vicinity of 150 Daniel Shays Highway (Route 202) on Saturday evening at 10 p.m., according to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old Athol man, and a passenger stopped to tend to Bezio. According to DA’s office spokesperson Laurie Loisel, the driver has not been charged in connection with the crash and there is no indication that impairment from alcohol was a factor.

The crash remains under investigation by the Athol Police Department and State Police troopers assigned to the Detective Unit at the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) and the Crime Scene Services Section.
