Bulletin Board: Leyden’s Rebecca Rodgers competes in 2023 FISU World University Games

Leyden native Rebecca Rodgers put on the red, white and blue this week to represent Team USA at the 2023 FISU World University Games at Lake Placid.
Rodgers, competing on the women’s curling team, helped lead the U.S. to wins over Sweden, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, Australia, Great Britain, China and Japan to secure a spot in Thursday’s semifinals, where the squad squared off with China for a second time.
Playing in the lead position, Rodgers had the top draw percentage on the team of 84 percent, but it was China that moved on to the gold medal match with a 6-5 victory.
The U.S. will face Great Britain in the bronze medal match on Friday while China moves on to face the Republic of Korea for the gold on Saturday.
Suburban League
Grayson Thomas knocked down nine 3’s to finish with 38 points while Aiden Holiday tacked on 17 points as the Greenfield grades 7 and 8 boys basketball team earned a 70-28 Suburban League win over Ware on Wednesday.
The Greenfield High School basketball boosters are hosting bingo night on Saturday, Jan. 21. at the Greenfield Elks Club.
The doors open at 6 p.m. with games beginning at 7 p.m. There will be cash prizes and raffles with a cash bar. The event benefits the Greenfield boys and girls basketball programs.

The 30th annual David M. Petrin Alumni Hockey Game will be held Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield. The game will feature Greenfield High School and Green Wave alumni.
All GHS and Green Wave hockey alumni are welcome to play, with roster spots still available. Rosters are limited to 30 skaters and two goalies. Interested alumni should call Larry Petrin (413-773-9250) and leave their name, telephone number and year of graduation.

South Hadley 42, Mohawk Trail 30 — Landon Purington (120), Camden Cousineau (132), Izaya Romer (170) and Will VanVleet (220) each secured pins in the Warriors’ loss to the Tigers in Buckland Wednesday.
Boys basketball
Southwick 79, Turners 53 — Alex Quezada scored 13 points, JJ Charles tallied 11 points and Levin Prondecki chipped in eight points as the Thunder fell to the Rams in an independent contest in Southwick W ednesday.
