Bulletin Board: Pioneer Valley Juniors win volleyball tournament on Sunday

The Pioneer Valley Juniors 15 North girls volleyball team impressed over the weekend in the NERVA Series Tournament held at Mahar Regional in Orange. 

The 15 North club opened the day on Sunday by defeating its sister team, PV 15 Pink, 2-0, before sweeping the Western Mass. 15 Flames, 2-0, to secure a spot in the playoffs. 

There, it beat the Dragons 15’s of Worcester before knocking off Vibe 15 Green from South Burlington in the finals to take home the championship. 

Almila Abban, Savannah Aldrich, Dani Chagnon, Amelia Hartner, Ryleigh Hayes-Golding, Cadence Martin, Sal North, Nola Payette and Lauren Sibley are the locals who helped take home the tournament championship. 

Frontier Ham Raffle

The Frontier baseball team is holding its annual Ham Slam Raffle on Saturday, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the South Deerfield Polish Club. 

The raffle is full of prizes donated by local businesses and boosters, including All State Materials Group, Delta Sand and Gravel, Bueno Y Sano, the Deerfield Inn, CD Davenport and more. 

Colleges

Greenfield High School alum Victoria Marin kicked off her outdoor track season at Westfield State on a high note on Sunday. 

Competing at the Swanson Invitational Meet at Wesleyan, Marin tied for first in the high jump with a top leap of 1.53 meters. She also took second in the triple jump (10.68 meters) and earned fifth in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.72 seconds.

On the softball diamond, Pioneer graduate Steph Scoville was named pitcher of the week for the second time this season. Scoville went 2-0 last week in the circle, throwing two complete game, allowing just four runs and striking out 12 as the Owls picked up wins over Elms (8-0) and Gordon (11-8). 

Cornhole

Jon Snow and Fred Llewelyn placed first at the weekly Hitchcock Brewing Sunday cornhole tournament in Bernardston.

Eric Oakes and Jason Bassett earned second place.
