Bulletin board: Greenfield hockey captures share of Wright Division title with win over Southwick

Another dominant outing from the Greenfield hockey team lifted the Green Wave to a share of the Wright Division title on Saturday.

Greenfield used a four-goal second period to rout visiting Southwick 7-0 in a Wright contest at Collins-Moylan Arena.

The Wave finished their regular season 14-5 overall, 9-1 in the Wright Division. Belchertown also won its finale on Saturday, 6-1 over McCann Tech, to finish 9-1 in the league.

Greenfield earned the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Western Mass. Class C Tournament. The Wave will play Southwick, seeded fourth, for the third time in a four-game span in the sectional semifinals on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at the Olympia Ice Center in West Springfield. The winner will play either No. 2 Taconic or No. 3 South Hadley in the WMass final on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in West Side.

Jayson Smith scored two goals and added an assist for Greenfield in Saturday’s win. Brodie Gagne, Matt Garvin, Hunter Smith, Jamison Baleno and Matt Lavoine also tallied, while Lavoine assisted on three tallies for the Wave.

Goalie Josh Bordeaux stopped all 16 shots he faced for the team’s fifth shutout of the season.

Greenfield has beaten Southwick by a combined margin of 14-0 in two meetings this season.

On the strength of 14 points apiece from Xaviay Reynolds and Casey Burke, Greenfield defeated Ware, 51-34, on Saturday in a Suburban League grades 5 and 6 boys basketball game.

The teams were tied at 19 at the half before Greenfield outscored Ware by a 32-15 margin the rest of the way. Conner Bergeron joined double-digit scoring barrage with 12 points in the win, while other offensive contributors included Ethan St. Clair (4 points), Isaac Tripp (3), Mahir Patel (2), and Taygen Daignault (2).

Roxanne Goulet leads with 22 points as the Greenfield Elks Pitch League played week 7 of 10 matches Wednesday evening at the Greenfield Lodge of Elks.

In second place was a five-way tie between Sharon Rawson, John Richardson, Pete Quintana, Mike Larabee and Kathy Clapp with 19 points.

In third place, Bob Wondoloski and John Kaczenski are tied with 18 points.
