Bulletin board: Brody Markol powers Thayer Street Builders in softball win

Brody Markol went 5-for-5 with a home run and two doubles, and Thayer Street Builders snagged a 17-4 win over Lightlife Foods in a Greenfield Adult Co-ed Softball League contest on Friday night at Green River Park.

Jay Sadler (two doubles), Parker Hickey (two doubles) and Cheyenne Dufresne (double) all had three hits in the win for Thayer Street.

Lightlife’s Chad Austin smacked a triple.

Basketball

Franklin Tech Summer League

Addison Harrington dropped in 17 points, while Kyler McClelland scored nine, Hailey Ring scored eight, Fota Ndiaye scored seven, and Kiara Gruszkowski and Riley Thayer each scored two to help Pioneer get past Mohawk Trail, 45-11, in a Franklin Tech Girls Basketball Summer League contest on Thursday in Turners Falls.

Mohawk Trail’s Rachel Pease led the way with five points, while Bella Pettengill (two), Valerie Bzomowski (two), and Sarah Beckwith (two) rounded out the scoring.

• Elsewhere, Franklin Tech defeated Hopkins Academy, 53-18, thanks to a team-high 14 points from Hannah Gilbert. Lilianna Inman and Lea Chapman each scored 12, while Kyra Goodell (nine), Kaitlin Trudeau (four), and Trinity Doane (two) rounded out the scoring.

For Hopkins Academy, Maggie Potter led the way with six points, followed by Sadie Cyr (five), Laynee Crutch (four) and Cassidy Fyden (three).

• Finally, Greenfield took down Athol, 51-15, powered by 26 points from Amber Bergeron. Tayler Bergeron and Natalia Cody each scored two points in the win.

For Athol, Emily King and Jenna Bonenfant tallied five points apiece, while Ava Adams scored three and Olivia Horrigan added two.

DRIVE League

Jon Breor paced a balanced scoring attack with 14 points, while Caleb Murray scored 13 points and Grayson Thomas added 11 to help Greenfield get past Orange, 50-46, in a DRIVE League boys varsity basketball game on Thursday at Greenfield High School.

Orange received 13 points from Lucas Isrow, in addition to 12 from Will Barnes and nine from Morgan Softic.

• Elsewhere, Easthampton’s Trevor Canon-Smith scored 14 points and Jasper Alvarez poured in 19 en route to a 64-55 win over Athol.

Ben Kearney (17 points) and Angel Castillo (16) were top scorers for Athol.

• Finally, Jack Riley scored 24 points and Alex Soto followed with 19 in Smith Voc’s 65-44 win over Brattleboro.

Brattleboro’s John Haskins led his side with 20 points, and Levi Tabachnick chipped in 14.

Golf

Greenfield Elks League

Bill Erman and Paul Viens amassed 40 points to sit atop the leaderboard at the Greenfield Lodge of Elks League at the Country Club of Greenfield last week.

Jim Elwell and Pete Quintana were second with 38 points, followed by Greg Call and Bob Zaikowski in third place (37.5 points).

Closest to the pin winners this week were Luigi Pederzini at No. 2 and Zaikowski at No. 5.
