ATHOL – Calling all cosplayers, super fans, and dress up lovers. The Athol Public Library will host the annual Cosplay Contest during this year’s Comic Book Fest, which takes place on Saturday, Oct. 5.
Pick a character from a favorite book, show, movie, game, anime or YouTube channel and create a costume that looks like that character. Mix and match items from the closet; upgrade an old costume; try face paint or a wig; create props from recycled materials – the possibilities are endless. Then, join the Comic Book Fest to show off the look.
Winners will be determined by a panel of Comic Book Fest judges. Contestants will be judged according to their costume’s resemblance to the character it is based on, representation of their costume, craftsmanship skills, and creativity.
Each contestant may enter only one costume into the competition, and preference is given to cosplays and costumes that are homemade. Nudity, obscene or graphic content, or other elements deemed inappropriate to the spirit of the competition will disqualify contestants.
Professional costumers or those who run a business of commission-based cosplay are encouraged to show off their costumes at the Comic Book Fest, but should not enter the competition.
Check in at the Comic Book Fest entry table in the Athol Town Hall between 10 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, Oct, 5.
Registration is free. There are three categories, based on age: 0-11, 12-19 and 20 and older. Prizes are provided by the Friends of the Athol Public Library.
