Bergeron’s big night lifts Wave past Frontier

It was the Amber Bergeron show at Nichols Gymnasium on Monday night.

The Greenfield star went off for 32 points, 21 coming in the second half, helping the Green Wave pull away with a 44-37 victory over Frontier for a key Franklin County League North victory. 

Elderina Cecunjanin tallied six points, Anna Bucala tossed in four points and Carly Blanchard had two points in the win. 

Hailey Hutkoski and Kylie Laford each scored 11 points for the Redhawks. Claire Kirkendall added six points and Delaney Fifield scored five points in the defeat. 

Mahar 48, Hopkins 42 — Kendrah Doane nearly recorded a triple-double, scoring 17 points, pulling down 14 rebounds and dishing nine assists as the Senators picked up a Franklin County League North win over the Golden Hawks in Orange on Monday.

Hayden Comeau scored 12 points and snatched eight boards, Nevaeh Scribner scored 10 points, Alivia Patch tallied five points and Sophia Woods scored four points and played strong defense in the victory.  

Turners 42, Athol 38 —Taylor Greene went off in the second half for the Thunder, scoring 24 of his game-high 27 points to lead Turners to a FCL South win over the Bears in Turners Monday. 

Steph Peterson and Raygan Pendriss each added three points for the Thunder.

Emma Bacigalupo put up 20 points in the loss, with Sammy Mailloux tossing in six points and Olivia Horrigan tallying four points for Athol. 

Mt. Everett 46, Franklin Tech 38 — Tied 24-24 at the half, Mt. Everett outscored Tech 12-5 in the third quarter to take control of the game, leading to an independent win in Turners on Monday. 

It was the first loss of the season for Franklin Tech (8-1). 

Kyra Goodell had a team-high 14 points for Tech, with Hannah Gilbert chipping in nine points. Lea Chapman scored five points and added nine rebounds, Kendra Campbell finished with four points and Kait Trudeau came up with seven steals in the loss. 

Ware 44, Mohawk Trail 22 — Riley Giard scored nine points as the Warriors fell to Ware in an independent contest in Ware Monday. 

Isabelle Pettengill and Grace Davenport each scored two points in the defeat. 

Boys swimming

Central 48, Turners 40 — Nik Martin took first in the 50 free (25 seconds) and 100 free (58.75) as the Thunder fell against the Golden Hawks in Turners Monday.

Matt Sibley won the 100 back (1:34) while Liam Bliss placed first in the 200 free (2:28), Tyler Galenski placed second in the 500 free and Cody McDonough finished in second in the 100 breast (1:31) in the defeat. 

Girls swimming

Central 68, Turners 28 — Avery Ehle won the 100 breast (1:37) while Addy Wood took first in the 100 fly (1:38) in the Thunders’ 63-28 loss to the Golden Hawks in Turners on Monday. 

Ehle took second in the 200 free, Wood placed second in the 200 IM, Avery Heathwaite earned second in the 50 free and Sylvie DiBartolomeo took second in the 500 free (6:57) and 100 back (1:19).
