H.S. Roundup: Hailey Ring wins two events to lift Pioneer girls track past Turners (PHOTOS)

Pioneer’s Hailey Ring won the long jump and 200 meter dash while Sahannah Heilman took the mile and placed third in the long jump to lead the Panthers girls track team to a 126-19 win over Turners Falls on Monday in Turners.
Caroline Ring won the shot put, javelin and discus for Pioneer in the victory.
In the boys meet Brayden McCord won the long jump and triple jump while David Stowe took the 400 hurdles, high jump and pole vault to lead Franklin Tech to a 115-30 victory against the Panthers.
Jonathan Bodenstein took first in the 200 while Cooper Bullock won the javelin for Pioneer.
Greenfield 9, Mount Greylock 1 — Ainslee Flynn set the tone for the defending Div. 5 state champs in the first inning, knocking a solo home run to put the Green Wave on the board.
Greenfield later tacked four runs on the board in the third and scored three in the fourth before adding a run in the sixth to walk away with a 9-1 Franklin County League West victory at Vets Field on Monday.
MacKenzie Paulin picked up right where she left off in the circle last spring. The sophomore pitched all seven innings, striking out 19, walking just two and giving up a mere three hits.
At the plate Paulin went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Rachel Dodge also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI while Amber Bergeron had two hits and an RBI for the Green Wave.

Pioneer 7, Smith Academy 2 — Smith Academy’s Griffin Smiarowski held down the Panthers for the opening four innings, with Pioneer holding a slim 1-0 lead going into the fifth.
Pioneer got things going at the plate late however, scoring six runs in the final three innings to pull away with a Bi-County League North victory over Smith Academy in Northfield on Monday.
Ian Simpson got the start for the Panthers, tossing six and one-third innings, striking out six. Ethan Quinn came on to get the final two outs, recording a strikeout.
Simpson helped himself in the second inning, driving in a run with a single to give Pioneer the early lead. Quinn later recorded an RBI triple, Ethan Mauthe knocked two hits and brought in a run, Ben Werner and Hugh Cyhowski both had a hit and an RBI while Alex McClelland drilled three hi ts for the Panthers in the victory.
Greenfield 6, Monson 0 — The Green Wave pitching staff was dominant on Monday, with Deven Dubie, Caleb Thomas and Arthur Fitzpatrick combining to throw a no-hitter as Greenfield walked away with an independent win in Monson to open its season.
Dubie tossed the first three innings and Thomas came on for the next two before Fitzpatrick pitched the final two frames for the Green Wave.
Thomas tallied two hits at the plate while John Marchefka knocked a double and brought in three runs. Luca Siano and Preston LaFleur both had a hit and an RBI, Malik Moore hit safely and Jackson Campbell stole home in the winning effort.
Ludlow 6, Athol 3 — In a game that saw both teams lose their starting pitchers to injuries in the top of the first inning, it was the Lions that were able to hold on for an independent win in Ludlow on Monday.
Logan Cormier, Caleb LaPointe and Aidan Melanson each knocked a base hit for the Bears.
Frontier 3, Duggan 0 — The Redhawks picked up their second win of the season on Monday, heading to Springfield and walking away with a 25-6, 25-10, 25-19 sweep over Duggan.
Jack Carey led the way with nine kills while Aleks Carey added seven kills in the victory. Owen Babb smashed seven kills and four aces, Brady Burch recorded five kills and seven aces while Tavo Vincent-Warner tossed 18 assists for Frontier.
Minnechaug 3, Athol 0 — Nate Torres, Ray Castine and Warren Taylor each put down two kills for the Bears in a 25-18, 25-11, 25-8 loss to the Falcons in Athol on Monday.
Holden Girouard dished out nine assists while Jesse Casillas, Ethan Goodwin and Ashan Santiago each had a kill in the loss.
Frontier 5, SICS 0 — It was a clean sweep for the Redhawks to start the year, with Frontier taking all five matches to earn a victory over the host Bulldogs on Monday.
Coleman Hartner picked up a 6-2, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles, Jacob Han won 6-1, 6-2 in No. 2 singles and Oliver Brown walked away with a 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 3 singles for the Redhawks.
The pairing of Harry Wright and Caiden Manning won 6-3, 6-3 in No. 1 doubles while Donovan Vichi and Ben Desmon earned a 6-1, 6-2 triumph in No. 2 doubles.
Hampden Charter East 5, Turners 0 — It was a great match at No. 1 singles between Hampden Charter’s John Guzman and Turners’ Mike Boyle, with Guzman coming away with a 6-1, 6-7 (4-7), 6-3 victory to sweep the Thunder on Monday in Holyoke.
Noah Kolodziej and Jake Reich competed in singles for the Thunder while Vaughn LaValley, John Carmichael, Patrick Andrews and Max Griere played in doubles.
The Four Rivers boys ultimate squad traveled to Rhode Island to compete in the Lemony Springs Ultimate Frisbee Tournament, with the Otters going 3-1 and reaching the finals.
Four Rivers opened with a 10-5 win over Newton North, with Ethan Sanberg scoring four goals in the victory. The Otters then won against Northampton, 7-6, with Russel Hubert finding Caleb Bird for the winning score. Four Rivers then defeated Southern Connecticut College in the semis to advance to the finals, where it fell to Middlebury, 12-3.
