Abby Moffatt nearly hit for the cycle for the Mohawk Trail softball team on Monday against Athol.
Moffatt cracked a single, a triple and smacked a home run to help lift the Warriors to a 28-8 Franklin County League East victory over the Bears in Buckland.
Aileen Moffatt tallied a pair of singles, Rachel Pease knocked a single and a triple while Maddie Consentino and Kaylin Sumner each tripled for Mohawk Trail. Riley Giard got the win in the circle, striking out nine.
Giana Vaillancourt struck out three while Jenna Bonenfant smashed two doubles in the loss for Athol.
Frontier 3, Longmeadow 1 — The Redhawks took the opening two sets before regrouping to win the fourth, walking away with a 25-18, 25-17, 22-25, 26-24 victory over the Lancers in Longmeadow Monday.
The win puts Frontier at 8-0 on the season, with Monday being the lone set it’s lost this spring.
“I’m proud of the guys today,” Redhawk coach Sean MacDonald said. “We were already short two players with vacation and then lost our primary setter Tavo [Vincent-Warner] halfway through the first set. Will Petrin, our only available sub on the bench who has never played as a setter, came in to set and helped us win set one. “Ngawang Deter came out of the libero jersey and he set for sets 2-4. Aleks Carey and Owen Babb stayed in for their back row rotations as we were now playing without a libero and did a good job without a ton of practice back there. So big shout out the everyone for adjusting on no notice.”
Aleks Carey led the way with 11 kills in the victory. Brady Burch smacked seven kills, Jack Carey recorded five kills, Owen Babb put down three kills and three aces, William Petrin had one assist and three aces while Ngawang Deter came up with six digs and dished 22 assists for Frontier.
