H.S. Roundup: Frontier softball puts up 20 runs to defeat Athol

The Frontier softball team had its bats rolling on Tuesday against Athol. 

The Redhawks finished with 13 hits in five innings, scoring eight in the first, three in the second, six in the third and three in the fourth to walk away with a 20-7 victory over the Bears in Athol. 

Liv Machon had a big day at the plate for Frontier, knocking a single, a double and a triple while driving in a pair of runs. Ashley Taylor knocked a triple and drove in two runs, Delaney Fifield doubled, singled and tallied three RBIs, Hailey Hutkoski knocked a pair of hits and drove in a run, Sophia Pinardi, Skyler Steele and Addy Ehle each doubled and knocked in a run while Gabby Adams had a pair of hits and RBIs in the win. 

Jaylynn Chapalonis blasted two doubles and a single to bring in two runs for Athol. Kahlen Gregory tallied a hit and an RBI while Madilyn Hermes and Giana Vaillancourt hit safely in the loss. 

Baseball

Turners 3, Athol 0 — Alex Quezada went the distance on the bump for the Thunder, scattering a mere three hits and striking out 10 as Turners blanked the Bears in an independent contest in Turners Falls on Tuesday. 

Kainen Stevens cracked a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Thunder. Derek Wissmann had a hit and an RBI while Levin Prondecki doubled in the win. 

Logan Cormier had a strong game on the mound for Athol, striking out 12 and allowing just the four hits in six innings work. Cormier helped himself with a pair of hits while Noah Wein also had a base hit in the loss. 

Smith Voc 10, Mahar 0 (5) — Marshall Ingram tossed a five-inning no-hitter, propelling the Vikings to a 10-0 win in a run-shortened affair on Tuesday in Northampton.

Girls tennis

Turners 5, Hampden Charter East 0 — Maria Labelle earned a 6-2, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles while Olivia Walbach picked up a 6-1, 11-9 victory in No. 2 singles to help propel the Thunder to a victory on Tuesday in Chicopee. 

Mady Lilly and Emma Haarmon walked away with a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 2 doubles for Turners. 

Boys track

Mohawk Trail 71, Greenfield 68 — Chay Mojallali took the triple jump (39 feet, 1.5 inches), the high jump (5-8) and the 110 hurdles (17.8 seconds) while Tanner Biagini won the long jump (16-1.75), the 100 (12.7) and the 200 (25.8) to help lead the Warriors to a victory over the visiting Green Wave on Tuesday. 

Emmett Johnson took the pole vault (8-0), the mile (4:42.7) and the 400 (56.0), Will VanVleet won the discus (94-1) while Vincent Gauthier took the 800 (2:14.6) and the 2 mile (12:19.1).

Mohawk Trail won the 4x400 relay (4:13.1) to seal the win. 

Greenfield winners were Deion Brewington in the shot put (41-0.5), Ryan Pulizari in the javelin (122-9) and Mason Youmell in the 400 hurdles (1:11.9). The Green Wave also won the 4x100 relay (51.9). 

Girls track

Mohawk Trail 108, Greenfield 29 — Irelyn Marcoux took first in the long jump (13-10.5), the 100 (14.3) and the 200 (30.5)  while Emmy Sisum won the triple jump (29-5) and the 400 hurdles (76.4) as the Warriors defeated the Green Wave in Buckland on Tuesday. 

Other Mohawk Trail winners included Savannah Simmons in the pole vault (6-0), Avery Johnston in the shot put (24-0.5), Lily Jenks in the 100 hurdles (21.2), Natalie Lanoue in the mile (6:23.8), Emma Canaday in the 400 (77.3) and Virginia Krezmien in the 2 mile (14:34.1).

The Warriors won both the 4x100 (60.7) and 4x400 (5:19.7) relays. 

For Greenfield, Lillia Kachelmeyer won the discus (76-9), Makayla Valente took the high jump (4-8) and javelin (81-5), and Ava Fortin came in first in the 800 (2:46.5). 

Ultimate

Frontier 9, NMH 8 — Brady Burch scored four points, Fernando Saravia had two points, Owen Babb tallied two points and Matt Sicard had a point in the Redhawks’ win over the Hoggers Tuesday in South Deerfield.

Ngawang Deter dished out three assists while Will Petrin also had a helper and Quinn Woods paced the defensive effort.
