H.S. Roundup: Steph Peterson picks up lone win of the day for Turners girls tennis against Palmer (PHOTOS)

Steph Peterson had the lone win of the day for the Turners Falls girls tennis team on Thursday against Palmer. 

Peterson picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win in No. 1 singles as the Thunder fell, 4-1, to the Panthers in Turners. 

Olivia Walbach fell 6-1, 6-3 in No. 2 singles and Allysia Corbin lost 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles. In doubles, Holly Hicks and Maddy Lilly fell 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 in No. 1 doubles while Avery Heathwaite and Markie Vachula-Curtis fell 6-0, 6-4 in No. 2 doubles. 

Mohawk Trail 4, Chicopee 1 — The Warriors swept singles to earn a victory over the Pacers on Thursday in Chicopee. 

Palmer King earned a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles, Paige King picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 2 singles while Hazel Forcault walked away with a 6-1, 6-0 win in No. 3 singles for Mohawk Trail. 

Dakota Cusimano and Lauryn Lovett earned a 7-6, 6-2 win in No. 1 doubles for the Warriors. 

Baseball

Pioneer 9, Mohawk Trail 0 — Ben Werner tossed a complete game shutout, striking out seven and allowing just two hits as the Panthers walked away with a Bi-County League North win over the Warriors in Northfield on Thursday. 

Luc Belhumeur and Werner each had three hits and an RBI in the win. Heath Gomez and Jared Golston each knocked two hits while Braeden Tsipenyuk hit safely for Pioneer.

Logan Moore had two hits for Mohawk Trail. 

Wahconah 12, Frontier 2 (6) — Nine errors were too much to for the Redhawks to overcome, falling on the road in an independent contest to the Warriors on Thursday. 

Grayson Loos had a pair of hits while Nico Fasulo and Tyler Cusson both knocked a hit for Frontier. Loos and Wyatt Edes each had three strikeouts in the defeat. 

Softball

Hopkins 11, Frontier 4 — The Golden Hawks broke the game open with a six-run third inning to defeat the Redhawks in an independent contest in Hadley on Thursday. 

Sophia Pinardi tallied three hits, Skyler Steele hit a solo home run and Gabby Adams, Delaney Fifield and Ashley Taylor each had a hit in the loss for Frontier. 

Boys volleyball

Frontier 3, PV Christian 0 — Brady Burch led the way with 11 kills, with Jack Carey adding eight kills and Asa Jackson and Owen Babb each putting down six kills to help lead the Redhawks to a 25-7, 25-21, 25-14 win over the Eagles at Goodnow Gymnasium on Thursday. 

Jesse Kurkulonis tallied five kills and dished 18 assists while Ngawang Deter tossed 18 assists in the victory. 

Belchertown 3, Athol 1 — The Bears won their first set of the year in an 18-25, 33-31, 25-15, 25-20 loss to the Orioles in Athol on Thursday. 

Boys tennis

PVCICS 5, Turners 0 — Noah Kolodziej had the closest match of the day for the Thunder, falling 6-3, 6-1 as Turnes fell to the Dragons on Thursday.

Boys track

Frontier 101, Mahar 44 — Alex Schreiber won the shot put (35 feet, 5.5 inches) and the discus (112-8), Erich Brown took the high jump (5-10) and the 400 hurdles (64.86) and Evan Hedlund came in first in the mile (4:55) and 2 mile (10:20.20) as the Redhawks picked up a win over the Senators in South Deerfield on Wednesday. 

Other Frontier winners were Aiden Dredge in the javelin (144-0), Adrien Pazmandy in the pole vault (9-0), Ben Cachiguango in the 110 hurdles (17.59) and the 200 (24.76), Fernando Saravia in the 400 (53.92) and Aidan Valderrama in the 800 (2:12.23). The Redhawks won the 4x100 relay (46.49). 

For Mahar Dom Whitman took the long jump (20-4) and the 100 (11.84) and Krasnodar in the triple jump (39-4.75). The Sens took the 4x400 relay (4:16.99). 

Ultimate

Frontier 15, Deerfield Academy 9 — Ngawang Deter had five assists while Matt Sicard and Brady Burch each had a point and three assists to lead the Redhawks past the Big Green on Wednesday.
