H.S. Roundup: Pulizari, Brewington, Caron pace Greenfield boys track past Athol (PHOTOS)

Ryan Pulizari, Deion Brewington and Jackson Caron each had big days for the Greenfield boys track team in a home meet on Friday against Athol. 

Pulizari won the long jump (16 feet, eight inches), the javelin (131-9) and the triple jump (34-8.75) while Brewington came out victorious in the shot put (41-8.5), the 100 (11.7) and the 200 (25.0) and Caron took the pole vault (9-0), the mile (4:59.8) and the 800 (2:24) as the Green Wave earned a 126-11 victory in Greenfield. 

Rounding out the Greenfield winners were Krish Patel in the high jump (5-2), Mason Youmell in the 110 hurdles (20.0) and the 400 hurdles (1:13), Jon Breor in the 400 (1:04) and Alex Scotera in the 2 mile (13:14). The Green Wave won the 4x100 (48.9) and 4x400 (4:48.1) relays. 

Nick LeBlanc had the lone first place finish of the day for Athol, winning the discus (126-1). 

Girls track

Greenfield 88, Athol 17 — Ava Widelo earned a trio of wins for the Green Wave, taking first in the long jump (13-3), the 100 (14.1) and the 200 (31.7) as Greenfield walked away with a win over the visiting Bears on Friday. 

Makayla Valente won the high jump (4-2) and the javelin (88-3), Lillia Kachelmeyer took the discus (100-6), Suhani Patel came in first in the triple jump (29-3.5), Indie Merrill earned a win in the 100 hurdles (19.2), Ava Fortin won the mile (6:45), Alice Fortin took the 400 (77.0) and Holly Babineau came out victorious in the 400 hurdles (89.0) for the Green Wave. Greenfield also won the 4x100 relay (58.4). 

Athol’s Karleigh Chase won the shot put (33-4.5). 

Baseball

Pioneer 1, Mt. Everett 0 — Ethan Quinn’s pitching kept the Panthers in it on Friday, with the sophomore striking out 12 and surrending just three hits. Pioneer just needed  one run in the third to walk away with an independent win over the visiting Eagles.

Quinn helped himself by getting on with a double to left center in the third. Braeden Tsipenyuk moved him to third on a ground ball and Hugh Cyhowski blasted a sacrifice fly to deep center to bring Quinn home for the lone Panther run of the game. 

Greenfield 10, Athol 1 — Deven Dubie was locked in on the mound on Friday for the Green Wave, with Bear Aedan Erickson tallying the lone hit in the second inning off him as Greenfield walked away with a Suburban League West win over Athol at Vets Field. 

Dubie finished with nine strikeouts and two walks in seven innings pitched. It was the freshman trio who did damage at the plate for the Green Wave, with Arthur Fitzpatrick cracking three hits, Luca Siano tallying two hits and Malik Moore adding a hit. Jon Marchefka hit safely, Michael Pierce had two hits including a triple and brought in two runs while Caleb Thomas had two RBIs in the win. 

McCann Tech 2, Franklin Tech 1 (5) — Mason Lehtomaki struck out three in five innings of work for the Eagles, with the game called after the fifth due to weather conditions in North Adams.

Ben Dodge scored the lone Franklin Tech run on an error off the bat of Alex Sulda. Sulda added a single while Will Ainsworth tossed out two runners from behind the plate in the loss. 

Lenox 6, Mahar 0 — The Millionaires put three runs on the board in the third and added three in the seventh to walk away with an independent win over the Senators in Orange on Friday. 

Sam Connors went the distance on the hill for Mahar, striking out 10. Jeremy Vezina tallied a single and a double while Connors and Will Barnes each tallied a hit in the defeat. 

Drury 6, Turners 4 — Alex Quezada blasted a home run while adding a single and bringing in two runs, but it was the Blue Devils who scored twice in the sixth to earn an independent win over host Turners on Friday. 

Joey Mosca tallied two hits and an RBI while Levin Prondecki and Kainen Stevens each hit safely. Mosca struck out two and scattered five hits for the Thunder. 

Softball

Mohawk Trail 5, Smith Academy 3 — Riley Giard held the Falcons lineup down on Friday, striking out 10 as the Warriors walked away with a Franklin County League East triumph over the Falcons in Buckland. 

Addie Loomis smashed two triples, Giard doubled while Aileen Moffatt, Sophia Goodnow and Maddie Consentino each hit safely in the win for Mohawk Trail. 

Hampshire 8, Turners 1 — The Raiders scored four in the fifth and two in the seventh to pull away with an independent win over the Thunder in the Bourdeau Fields Complex on Friday. 

Madisyn Dietz tallied two hits, Marilyn Abarua doubled while Holly Myers, Janelle Massey, Cadi Wozniak and Mia Marigliano each hit safely for Turners. Madi Liimatainen struck out 11 in the loss. 

Boys volleyball

Granby 3, Athol 1 — Michael Swanigan put down 15 kills to lift the Rams to a 25-13, 22-25, 25-6, 25-14 win over the Bears in Athol on Friday. 

Girls tennis

Greenfield 4, Renaissance 1 — Kaitlyn Collins walked away with a 6-0, 6-0 win in No. 1 singles while Mireb Gheorghita took No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-4 victory to help the Green Wave earn a win over the Phoenix in Springfield on Friday. 

Jessica Mihailicenco picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win in No. 3 singles while Lily Duong and Amy Mihailicenco earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles for Greenfield.

Softball

Turners 6, Wahconah 0 — Turners ace Madi Liimatainen continues to be a problem for opposing lineups. 

The sophomore tossed a no-hitter on Thursday, striking out 15 and surrendering just five walks as Turners earned a Franklin County League West win in Dalton on Thursday. 

Morgan Dobias cracked two hits, one a double, and drove in a run, Holly Myers knocked a hit and an RBI, Janelle Massey tallied two hits, Addison Talbot had two hits including a double, Marilyn Abarua hit safely while Madisyn Dietz and Liimatainen each had an RBI for the Thunder. 

Boys track

Frontier 111, Mohawk Trail 31 — Alex Schreiber won the shot put (35-1) and the discus (107-3), Ian Burt took the long jump (18-4.5) and the triple jump (38-3.5) while Erich Brown won the high jump (6-0) and the 400 hurdles (69.0) as the Redhawks picked up a win against the visiting Warriors on Thursday. 

Rounding out the Frontier winners were Aiden Dredge in the javelin (143-10), Adrien Pazmandy in the pole vault (9-0), Ben Cachiguango in the 110 hurdles (16.5) and the 200 (23.9), Fernando Saravia in the 100 (11.9) and the 400 (55.1), Luke Howard in the mile (4:50.8) and Evan Hedlund in the 2 mile (10:15.7). 

The Redhawks won the 4x100 (46.8) relay. 

Mohawk Trail’s Emmett Johnson won the 800 (2:00.1) while the Warriors won the 4x400 relay (3:58.3). 

Ultimate

Four Rivers 12, Northampton 7 — Eve Macek had six assists while Eleanor Herbert had two assists to lead the Otters past the  Blu e Devils on Thursday.
