High schools: Frontier sweeps Athol in boys volleyball action (PHOTOS)

Make it three wins in a row for the Frontier boys volleyball team to open the season.
Taking on Athol, Tavo Vincent-Warner distributed 40 assists, with Jesse Kurkolonis on the receiving end of 12 kills, to lead the the Redhawks to a 25-22, 25-14, 25-13 sweep over the Bears at Goodnow Gymnasium on Wednesday.
Aleks Carey smashed nine kills, Owen Babb put down eight kills, Jack Carey tallied six kills, Brady Burch recorded five kills while Ngawang Deter came up with 10 digs in the victory.
Ethan Goodwin and Logan McGrath both cracked four kills for Athol. Colin Mason had three kills and Holden Girouard tossed out 17 assists in the loss.
Frontier 9, Mt. Greylock 3 — The Redhawks avenged their 2022 Western Mass. Class C finals loss on Wednesday, scoring three runs in both the first and second innings to pull away with an independent win over the Mounties in South Deerfield.
Alex Gochinski singled and scored on a throwing error while stealing, Nico Fasulo cracked a double and was brought home off a single from Grayson Loos before Eathon Bryant brought Loos in with a sacrifice fly to give Frontier a 3-0 lead after one.
Fasulo knocked an RBI single with the bases loaded, Loss brought Jesse Dubreuil home on a sac fly and Gochinski scored on an error to make it a 6-0 game heading into the third.
Liam Skribiski-Banack scored Fasulo on a sac fly while Loos added an RBI single in the sixth in the win.

Loos also got the win on the mound, tossing the opening five innings and striking out seven while allowing just one hit. Aidan Heffernan came on for the final two innings, allowing just one hit and striking out one. Kaden James added another throw out from behind the plate in the win.
South Hadley 8, Athol 2 — The Bears put two runs on the board in the second to knot the game up, 2-2, but were unable to produce any more runs off the Tigers, with South Hadley walking away with a Suburban League West victory in Athol on Wednesday.
Alex Lavigne finished with a single and an RBI double for the Bears, with Shea Brennan scoring the lone other run off an error after reaching on a single in the second. Logan Cormier also hit safely for Athol in the loss.
Monument Mountain 12, Greenfield 0 (5) — The Spartans held down the Green Wave bats at Vets Field on Wednesday, with Greenfield producing just two hits as Monument earned an independent win in five innings.
Michael Pierce had both hits for Greenfield, both going for doubles.
Agawam 13, Frontier 4 — Host Agawam broke open a 2-2 game with a seven-run bottom of the fourth inning en route to the 13-4 independent win on Wednesday.
Frontier (1-1) committed 10 errors in the loss. Skyler Steele paced the offense with two hits (single, triple), while Sophia Pinardi added a pair of singles for the Hawks. Ashley Taylor and Olivia Machon combined for eight strikeouts in the pitching circle for the visitors.
PVCICS 5, Turners 0 — The visiting Dragons won all but two games across five matches en route to a 5-0 sweep on Wednesday in Turners Falls.
Mike Boyle had the top showing for host Turners at No. 1 singles, where he fell to PVCICS’ Aiden Cleary, 6-0, 6-2.
