Tennis, track and volleyball: Frontier girls tennis unable to pull out win against Pope Francis (PHOTOS)

Rebecca Wallace-West and Cece Jazwinski had the lone win of the day for the Frontier girls tennis team on Monday against Pope Francis, with the duo pulling out a 6-4, 6-2 victory in No. 2 doubles in the Redhawks’ 4-1 loss to the Cardinals.
Sydney Scanlon fell in No. 1 singles (4-6, 6-2, 6-1), Maddie Powers lost in No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-1), Thanushi Ratnatunge fell in No. 3 singles (6-0, 6-0) while Sam Baker and Hashini Ratnatunge were unable to get a win in No. 1 doubles (6-4, 6-8, 6-3) for Frontier.
West Springfield 5, Turners 0 — Holly Hicks and Avery Heathwaite had the top match for the Thunder, falling in No. 2 singles 7-6 (7-5), 1-6, 3-10 as Turners fell at home to the Terriers.
Steph Peterson (6-3, 6-0) , Maria Labelle (6-3, 6-0), Olivia Walbach (7-5, 7-5) and Jill Reynolds and Emma Harmon (6-3, 6-1) also competed for the Thunder in the loss.
Frontier 3, Commerce 1 — After a split in the opening two sets the Redhawks recovered to win the final two and walk away with a 25-15, 22-25, 25-11, 25-16 victory over the Raiders on Monday in Springfield.
Jack Carey finished with 11 kills, Owen Babb put down 10 kills, Jesse Kurkulonis tallied seven kills, Brady Burch smashed six kills while Tavo Vincent-Warner dished 35 assists for Frontier.
Putnam 3, Athol 0 — The Beavers pulled away with a 25-20, 25-9, 25-12 victory over the host Bears on Monday.
Mahar 77, Mohawk Trail 66 — Dom Whitman had a big day for the Sens, taking first in the long jump (18 feet, 7.75 inches), the triple jump (39-9), the 100 (11.5 seconds) and the 200 (23.8) while Mitchell Krasco came in first in the 110 hurdles (16.9) and the 400 hurdles (1:05.2) in Mahar’s win over the Warriors in Buckland Monday.

Xander Roberts won the javelin (113-6), Marshall Ames took the 400 (58.7) for the Senators. Mahar won the 4x100 relay (49.6).
Winners for Mohawk Trail were Chay Mojallali in the high jump (6-0), Wyatt alling in the pole vault (8-6), Will Van Vleet in the shot put (35-4) and discus (103-10), Vincent G authier in the mile (5:06.2), Emmett Johnson in the 800 (2:06) and Peter Healy in the 2 mile (11:51.6). The Warriors won the 4x400 relay (3:54).
Mohawk Trail 104, Mahar 39 — Zephyr Jetzon won the long jump (14-9.5) and the 100 (13.8) while Virginia Krezmien won the mile (6:18.9) and the 2 mile (14:26.3) in the Warriors’ win over the Senators on Monday in Buckland.
Rounding out the Mohawk Trail winners were Natalie Lanoue in the high jump (4-4), Sophia Slocik-Gritzner in the discus (69-3), Morgan Raffa in the javelin (77-9), Cleo Gardner in the 100 hurdles (20.8), Emily Sisum in the 400 hurdles (75.0) and Anya Read in the 800 (2:45). The Warriors won the 4x100 (55.7) and 4x400 (4:48.9) relays.
For Mahar Nevaeh Scribner won the triple jump (29-7) and the 200 (28.1) and the 400 (66.1) while Stellina Moore took the pole vault (9-6) and Madilyn Moore won the shot put (24-2.5).
