Mahar’s Maximus Parsons entered the second period of Tuesday night’s wrestling dual meet with South Hadley trailing the Tigers’ Adrien DeBeer 3-0, as he got taken down in the first period and stayed on the bottom the rest of the frame. Although it seemed like Parsons didn’t have much going for him, he flipped the match around in the next period – literally.

While battling for position on the ground, DeBeer tried to turn Parsons on his back, but instead, Parsons tilted DeBeer and had a strong grip on him. Parsons kept his opponent there for several seconds, earning the pin and sending the Senators’ bench into a frenzy as he put his team up 42-12.

Mahar would go on to win 54-29 to improve to 4-2 in dual meets this winter.

Former state champion Abduli Gilmore (106-pound weight class) started off the meet with a pin in 29 seconds, giving the Senators a 6-0 lead they would never surrender. Orion Whitehouse (126), Elias Roberts (138), Joshua Mazza (144), Dante Dowler (150), Tristen Gaj (175) and Khalil Roberts (190) all earned pins for Mahar, with Gaj sticking South Hadley’s Jasiel Ramos in the final seconds to earn a dramatic back-and-forth victory.

The Sens return to the mat on Saturday for a tournament at Quabbin High School in Barre.
