WARWICK — The remains of a woman from Keene, New Hampshire, were found in Warwick, according police in that city who have been investigating a report of a missing person over the past three weeks.
The body was identified as 31-year-old Justina Steffy, who went missing in early October, Keene Police announced Thursday evening.
In a written statement, Keene Police said the investigation remains ongoing as they work with other law enforcement agencies to determine the circumstances of Steffy’s death.
“Autopsy results are currently pending further forensic testing, and the circumstances as to how Ms. Steffy came to be in Massachusetts are being actively investigated by the Keene Police Department,” Michael Garritty, a spokesperson for the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office, wrote in an email to the Recorder Friday.
Garrity also wrote that due to the investigation being “active and ongoing,” the state could not provide further information on the specific location where Steffy’s body was found or the date and time her body was discovered.
A portion of Hastings Heights Road in Warwick was closed from approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 22, until noon the next day as both Massachusetts and New Hampshire law enforcement searched for her. Hastings Heights Road residents reported seeing ambulances and both state and local law enforcement vehicles.
Keene Police ask anyone with information related to Steffy or her whereabouts prior to her death to call 603-357-9820.
