Local roundup: Joshua Bordeaux, Greenfield hockey pitch 3rd shutout in win over McCann Tech

Two goals from Sammy Knight, and another stout defensive effort guided the Greenfield hockey team to a tidy 4-0 victory over McCann Tech in Wright Division action on Saturday night at Collins-Moylan Arena in Greenfield.
Greenfield, which led 2-0 after one period, also received goals from Matt Garvin and Jake Jurek. Assists were credited to Knight, Jurek, Jayson Smith and Luca Siano.
Goalie Josh Bordeaux stopped all 14 shots he faced for his third shutout of the season. Two of them came against the Hornets (1-7). Greenfield held a decisive 37-14 edge in shots on goal.
Greenfield improved to 11-4 overall with the win, 7-1 in the Wright. Next up is an intriguing independent game on Monday at 5 p.m. against Amherst (5-6).
Warriors compete in third meet
Despite a lack of snow this winter, the Mohawk Trail Nordic ski team was able to host its first meet of the high school season and third overall on Saturday in Buckland.
The event also included teams from Mt. Greylock, Wahconah, Lenox, Amherst, Simbsury and Hoosac Valley.
Mohawk Trail’s Augustus Niswonger, who attends Hampshire Regional, was the top skier for the host school on Saturday, finishing 14th overall in the boys’ race with a time of 16 minutes, 54 seconds. That helped the Warriors to a fourth-place team showing with 76 points. Mount Greylock won the boys’ race (11 points), followed by Wahconah (30) and Lenox (66). Amherst took fifth place (98 points).

Rounding out the top five finishers for the Warriors on the boys’ side were Vincent Gauthier (17th, 17:09), Oscar Schiff (28th, 18:05), Curtis Casey (30th, 18:07) and Emmett Johnson (31st, 19:01).
On the girls’ side, Mohawk Trail’s Charlotte Niswonger, who attends Hampshire Regional, finished 2oth to pace the Warriors (22:34). Mohawk Trail was fifth as a team with 100 points. Greylock (18), Wahconah (31), Lenox (43) and Amherst (46) were the top four scoring squads.
Mohawk Trail’s Corinne Somes (25th, 23:02), Anya Read (26th, 23:15), Ada Comer (35th, 25:26) and Sadie Mahon-Moore (36th, 26:29) rounded out the Warriors’ top five finishers.
Mohawk Trail had five skiers in the boys’ JV race: Luke Pickard (4th place, 18:47), Aidan Gauthier (19th place, 22:09), Aymeric Loucka (38th place, 25:44), Sam Barrows (39th place, 26:41), and Malcolm Todd (41st place, 27:04).
Mt. Greylock tourney
Two Frontier seniors earned championships at the 30th annual Mount Greylock Wrestling Tournament on Saturday in Williamstown.
Senior Conner Hoffman won the title at 170 pounds for the Redhawks, using a pin to cap his title run and second championship of the season. Hoffman pinned Athol’s Riley Reed in the second period of the 170-pound title bout.
Frontier senior Jake Mattson took home the title at 195 pounds, where he pinned Granby’s Junior Ramsey in the third round of the championship bout.
Mohawk Trail’s William VanVleet added to the hardware for the local contingent, as he captured the title at 220 pounds on Saturday.
Frontier seventh grader Konnor James won two matches at 126 pounds, while classmate Ben Baker nabbed a match win at 138 pounds.
Mahar 54, Quabbin 24
Wakefield 61, Mahar 12 – The Senators won five of the eight matches contested against Quabbin en route to the dual win on Saturday.
Winners for the Senators included Abduli Gilmore (113 pounds), Colby Chiasson (132), Domanic Cacciolfi (138), Luke Chiodo (160) and Cameron Doyle (182). Chiodo was the lone Mahar wrestler to nab a win on the mat against Wakefield.
Hitchcock Brewing results
The team of Fred Llewelyn and Jon Snow captured first place on Sunday, as Hitchcock Brewing Company in Bernardston held its weekly cornhole tournament.
Second place went to the duo of Gene LaCoy and George Cooke.
