ATHOL – Town Clerk Nancy Burnham has announced that nomination papers are now available for anyone interested in running for office in the Annual Town Election on April 7.
Candidates for municipal office – Selectboard or Library Trustee, for instance – must collect the signatures of 37 registered voters.
Those interested in serving on the Athol Royalston Regional School Committee must collect a total of 50 signatures; all 50 names may be collected from a single town – or split between the two towns – but because the committee serves two communities, the required number of signatures is higher.
The deadline for returning nomination papers is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18. Incumbents seeking reelection are eligible to sign a blanket nomination form at the Town Clerk’s office.
The last day to register to vote in the election is Friday, March 28. Vote by mail applications must be submitted to the Town Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on Monday, March 31. Any candidate wishing to withdraw their name from the ballot, or anyone who wants to register an objection to a particular candidate, must do so by Wednesday, March 5.
Offices to be filled in this year’s election, length of term, and incumbent include:
Town Moderator, one-year term (Lawrence McLaughlin)
Selectboard, two 3-year terms (Stephen Raymond, Kala Fisher)
