Indoor track: Frontier secures league titles at PVIAC Meet No. 7

Caroline Crocker continued her dominant winter, and the Frontier girls indoor track team capped a perfect regular season and league title on Sunday.

The Redhawks won both of their dual meets against Greenfield (90-0) and Mohawk Trail (80½-10½) on Sunday during PVIAC Meet No. 7 at Smith College in Northampton, improving to 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the league.

The Frontier boys team also beat Greenfield (67-26) and Mohawk Trail (78-16) to cap a league title with a 7-0 mark, as the squad finished 12-1 overall.

Crocker won both the 55-meter dash and 55-meter hurdles during Sunday’s early meet. She placed first in the hurdles with a time of 8.90 seconds, and also bested the field in the dash (7.81 seconds). Crocker had two more top 10 finishes, placing sixth in the high jump and sixth in the long jump.

Greenfield’s Jackson Caron also earned a victory during the early meet on Sunday, as he bested the field in the boys 1,000 meters with a time of 2:59.09. Caron was also third in the 1-mile (4:56.84).

Frontier’s Evan Hedlund was the winner in the boys 2-mile (10:24.12), and Mohawk Trail’s Chay Mojallali tied for first in the high jump (5-11). Mojallali was also seventh in the 55-meter hurdles (9.46), and Hedlund took seventh in the 600 (1:41.24).

The Frontier girls’ team continued to rack up the top 10 finishes during Sunday’s early meet. Summer Sobieski was fifth in the high jump and ninth in the long jump, while Hannah Davis was the runner-up in the 55-meter hurdles and took ninth in the high jump. Sophia Leone nabbed seventh in both the 55 hurdles and 55 dash, and Sasha Malo was fourth in the 2-mile and sixth in the 1,000.

Other top 10 finishers for the Redhawks included Micky McCarthy (third, shot put), Lilly Novak (sixth, shot put), Abigail Howard (third, 1-mile), Maia Christensen (10th, 1-mile), Claire McFarland (fourth, 600), Perla Ordaz (second, 300) and Madelyn Antes (seventh, 300).

Mohawk Trail senior Savannah Simmons registered a seventh-place finish in the 1-mile (6:29.09) and took 11th in the 1,000 meters (3:57.94).

In the boys’ race, Greenfield’s Deion Brewington put together a solid outing as he was fourth in the shot put (39-06.25) and sixth in the 55 (6.94).

Frontier’s Ben Cachiguango posted a second-place finish in the 55 hurdles (8.61) to go with a sixth-place showing in the 300 (40.34) and a ninth-place finish in the 55 (6.99). Teammate Aidan Valderrama finished third in the 1,000 meters (2:59) and eighth in the high jump (5-1), while fellow Redhawks’ August Radner (sixth, 2-mile) and William Reading (fifth, 600) were additional top 10 finishers.

Mohawk Trail’s Tanner Biagini added a 12th-place showing in the 300.       

In Sunday’s late meet, Mahar eighth grader Stellina Moore again racked up the top 10 performances to pace the Senators. Moore was fourth overall in the 55-meter hurdles (10.28), and also took eighth in the high jump (4-5) and ninth in the long jump (13-4.5).

Mahar’s Mathieu Soucy was 10th in both the 55 meteres (7.28) and 300 (42.07), and Peter Frost nabbed seventh in the 2-mile (12:23.50).

Athol’s Anthony Lopez-Hippler powered to a runner-up finish in the high jump (5-9), and was also 10th in the long jump and 12th in the shot put.

Teammates Sydney Gauvin (11th, 26-1) and Karleigh Chase (12th, 25-0.5) went back-to-back in the girls’ shot put on Sunday for Athol.
