Softball: Liimatainen, Dobias each hit two home runs to lift Turners past Frontier

The Turners Falls softball team is beginning to hit its stride. 

After defeating Greenfield on Wednesday, the Thunder followed it up by taking down Frontier on Friday, 13-3, in a Franklin County League West contest in South Deerfield. 

Madi Liimatainen and Morgan Dobias led the offensive charge for Turners (6-4). Liimatainen knocked two home runs, two singles and drove in four runs while Dobias had a pair of solo home runs in the victory. Liimatainen went the distance in the circle, striking out 15 and surrendering just four hits in another standout all-around performance.

Cadi Wozniak doubled, Madisyn Dietz and Holly Myers each had a pair of hits and an RBI, Marilyn Abarua knocked a hit that brought in two runs, Mia Marigliano tallied a hit and an RBI while Janelle Massey and Addison Talbot each hit safely for the Thunder. 

Sophia Pinardi tallied two hits while Ashley Taylor and Hailey Hutkoski each hit safely for Frontier. Taylor and Liv Machon combined for five strikeouts in the loss. 

Franklin Tech 12, Mohawk Trail 2 — Hannah Gilbert struck out 10 in seven innings, and visiting Franklin Tech racked up 14 hits en route to a 12-2 victory in a Franklin County League East contest Friday in Buckland.

The Eagles (8-1, 5-0) trailed 1-0 into the third inning before scoring a pair. They pushed across three in the fourth, two in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the seventh to pull away for the win.

Kylee Gamache was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs to pace the Franklin Tech offense. Hannah Gilbert (2-for-4, triple), Kendra Campbell (2-for-4, RBI) and Kaitlin Trudeau (2-for-4, RBI) also keyed the offense in the win, and Cordelia Guerin added a triple.

Mohawk Trail pitcher Riley Giard struck out seven in the circle and smacked a home  run in another standout perfor mance. Sophia Goodnow doubled for the Warriors, while Addie Loomis also had a hit to pace the offense.

Greenfield 12, Taconic 2 — The Green Wave racked up 12 hits offensively, and ace pitcher MacKenzie Paulin struck out 12 and allowed no walks and just four hits as Greenfield cruised to another Franklin County League West win on Friday night at Vets Field.

Amber Bergeron was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Greenfield, while Ainslee Flynn (two RBIs) and Rachel Dodge (RBI) each had two hits in the win. Paulin (double, two RBIs), Anna Bucala (triple, two RBIs) and Ivy Rae (single, two RBIs)  also aided the offensive onslaught for the defending state champs.

Hopkins 23, Athol 4 (5) — The Golden Hawks exploded for 18 runs in the second inning en route to a victory over Athol on Friday.

Cassie Dion struck out four to earn the win for Hopkins, which improved to 8-2 overall.

Athol scored three runs in the fourth and one in the fifth.
