ORANGE — The Orange Community Band is rehearsing for its 40th annual Afternoon at the Pops Concert, which will be held in the Orange Armory on Saturday, April 28, at 4 p.m.
Conductor Stephanie Parker is working to finalize the concert program, which will be composed of favorite marches and popular selections, as well as music from the band’s extensive library of classic, popular and show tunes and familiar and lesser-known marches. Much of the music for this concert is newly purchased, including several recent movie and show themes.
In preparation for the concert, members are rehearsing Wednesday evenings in the Armory Senior Center. A modified Program Booklet is being prepared, and community members wishing to donate to become Band Patrons may send a check to Orange Community Band, c/o Maureen Riendeau, 820 Carpenter Road, Athol, MA 01331.
Band members come from Orange and the surrounding community, and many have played in the Orange Community Band for four and five decades. Other members are participants in their high school or college programs. Over the years, many family groups have performed together in the band, and generations of families have enjoyed the traditional Friday evening concerts on the Bandstand in Butterfield Park each summer. The band always welcomes new members of high school age and beyond who are willing to give back musically to the community.
